Hi
I have a REMstar Syatem one A-Flex auto. I read a lot about min and Max pressure. My machine is on a fixed pressure which I have a 13.5 at the minute.
Can I change to a min max pressure as apposed to a fixed?
If I do what are the benefits?
Thanks in advance
K

Are you using software (like Sleepyhead) to monitor your therapy?Controlshift wrote:Hi

If so, how are your existing settings working for you?
If not, you NEED to so you'll be able to answer these questions for yourself.
For some, there are benefits, for others......straight pressure provides better therapy.
It's an individual choice and much of it depends on a person's breathing characteristics and which settings work better.
For me, the changing pressures during the night wreck my sleep.

Re: Change from fixed pressure
More use auto (the range) than one pressure, and it also makes it easier to titrate yourself - figure out where your best setting is, using Sleepyhead software (free). You can change your machine's mode from Cpap to Apap, but without any idea of what pressures you need, would have to guess... but I personally might set a low of e.g. 6 or 7 and a high of 10 to start with... then using SH, see how those look - where you actually spend 90-95% of your time, i.e. your high pressure likes to sit around 9, but doesn't show evidence of needing to be higher most of the time, so you could leave the high setting at 10, or possibly 11. And do a similar experiment with the lows. It would be best if you downloaded SH and learned about how to use it, with help here, to find your best range.
In the end, after experimenting with settings - leaving each in place for at least a few days to get a 'consensus' on them - and seeing what SH reports, you'll be able to say if you feel better or not once settings are established. But if, as Den says, using the range Apap gives you vs plain Cpap of e.g. 10, you feel worse, then you can always go back to Cpap mode.

Yes, you can change that, since you have some sort of auto. your description narrows it down to one of two models.Controlshift wrote:Hi

As Den mentioned, some people feel they do better on a fixed pressure, and some people feel they do better on a varying pressure.
I'm one that likes the auto settings, because it allows me to have a *lower* pressure for much of the night, and when, for whatever reason (sleeping position, sleep state (many people need more pressure during REM)) I need more pressure to control the apnea, my machine can respond to that, and give me what I need to keep my apnea at bay, and let me rest.
looking at your data would be a good first start, see if your events are well controlled at this point, or if you're having events on and off during the night.
