Transcend CPAP Machine

Post by ontariomama » Mon Apr 04, 2016 10:55 am

I am a frequent airline traveller and read about the transcend CPAP machine in one of the airline on-board magazines.
Anybody ever use it? My extended health insurance will pay for a new machine shortly (every 5 years), and since my every-day machine is still relatively new (had to have it replaced twice under warranty, so the present machine is only a few months old), I was thinking of having my health insurance company purchase the transcend for me to travel with (if opinions are positive about it).

Given that most of the reviews are favorable, I just wanted to add some observations. Many people have top-of-the-line machines and are used to a SILENT machine. The Transcend is not silent. If it is working properly, it is also not loud, but if you are accustomed to silent, you may have difficulty getting used to it. Some of the problems are simply moving from one machine to another. It doesn't have the same features as a regular unit.

Try your own machine. Can you stand it for a night or two without a humidifier? If not, none of the small machines will work for you as they either don't have or don't have sufficient humidification. If you can do without it, consider just taking the cpap part of your Respironics machine with you and leave behind the humidifier. It's pretty tiny so takes up little room. In my state, you have 3 days to return ANY machine no matter what the policy of the medical supply place. Find out what the return policy is for what and where you are getting it to give yourself a chance to try it to see if it works for you.

Of course, I should mention that the small print in many airline baggage damage claims say that they will not cover electronic equipment. So, be aware of this before considering placing it in your suitcase.

ontariomama,

There is one more travel sized CPAP machine that you should check out, the Human Design Medical Z1 and Z1 Auto machines. Right now they have a 30 day return period for the machine and all the accessories that you buy with the initial purchase.
From their web site:

- The products included are the HD60-1005 Z1 CPAP Base System, HD60-1010 Z1 Unplugged System, HD60-1007 Z1 Auto CPAP Base System and HD60-1017 Z1 Auto Unplugged System plus any accessories included in the initial purchase.

- The 30-day trial period starts at the shipment date to the end user. From the shipment date the purchaser has 30 days to contact their HDM USA to return the products.

I use the Z1 Auto (and prior to that the Z1) weekly between 35 and 45 weeks a year and travel by plane for all those trips.

You can search on my name and a number of threads where I post my experience will be returned.

If you decide to try it I suggest that you also buy the Q-Tube muffler during that initial purchase so you can return the hole kit and caboodle if you don't like it.

I wont repeat everything hear so do a search. Pretty much everything I say about noise and comfort and air pressure applies to the Transend as well.

When do you intend to use a travel machine?
