Need some expert ResMed S9 VPAP S and VPAP ST help please

Post by DavidC5065 » Sat Apr 02, 2016 2:57 pm

I use an S9 VPAP S as my main equipment. It has a label on the case that says "Easy-Breathe" below the on off button, and in the setup menu the easy-breathe feature can be turned off, but it is on, and inhale/exhale is very comfortable and "normal". I just got an S9 VPAP ST as a back-up/travel unit. Apparently It does not have the easy-Breathe function (not written on case) nor is it in the setup menu. I run the vpap st in s mode, with exactly the same settings as the vpap s - IPAP @ 17 and EPAP at 8 and all other settings matching the vpap s setup. Yet, it is hard to breathe against the mask on the ST, the mask with the st actually palpitations as I inhale and exhale...very uncomfortable. I turned off the easy-breathe function on the VPAP S machine to experiment, and it acts similarly to the ST, though not as bad. My question then is there a similar feature to easy-breathe available in a different mode on my VPAP ST, such as some different named setting or feature like in the ST or T mode, that would make the inhale and exhale more comfortable, along the lines of the S machine. I've tried searching internet but can't seem to find any details on this. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave

Someone should come along who uses that machine and can help you find the setting in the menu. In the meantime,
including ResMed's Enhanced Easy-Breathe technology

According to the manual, easy-breath is available on the Auto, and the S machines, in S mode. (it's actually always on inVAuto mode)

However it does not show easybreath being available on the ST in S mode.

it'd probably be worth it for you buy/trade/swap for a Vauto or S machine as a backup, and let someone that *needs* the T ability have that.

in the meantime, you could try twiddling with risetime.

Thanks palerider. Is there any reason NOT to use the ST if I can get used to not having the easy-breathe feature? The therapy part is the same right?

When I turn off the easy-breathe function on my vpap s, it behaves just like my vpap st, in terms of forceful breathing pattern. I find it hard to believe resumed didn't allow for some manual settings in rise time, trigger, cycle, etc. to provide for a comfortable transition between ipap and epap. Oh well, up for trade goes the ST. Thanks appetizer and ChicagoGranny.

there's no reason, other than the different air delivery, (which is mainly a comfort thing) not to use the ST.

you should be able to give it a longer rise time and it will feel less abrupt.

I tried that but it is still a very abrupt transition. The S does the same thing with easy-breathe turned off, but I can't seem to get used to the abrupt transition....If I can't trade for an S I'll probably keep trying. It is a very significant difference given such a high pressure I have to use.
