what you said, I replied to, they're capable.
See.......editing someone's posts and quotes looks a little different from the other side.

But, like I said about always recommending APAPs.........here are a few links from back in time to prove it
And, a few more links from "history", taking on the manufacturers and their pricing (MAP) and other policies.........
Some of our long-time members show up in some of them.......and some are still here! YAY!

you might try taking apart a variety of resmed S9 machines for the fun of it.

I believe air10s are the same.
I believe you've commented on that before.

I knew it was a fact when I saw the insides of some REMstar Pro 2 and Auto machines. Saw them first in pictures by "dsm" and then when I took one of my Pro 2 machines apart to fix it. They both say "Auto C-Flex Domestic"

well, now, ya see, there's a clear difference in trimming cruft, which I did, without changing your words whatsoever,

and just fabricating crap, which, depending on who you ask, is just lying, or possibly 'creative journalism'.

I've seen pics of the insides of a number of the prs1 machines, and they're very similar from the pictures I've seen... though they do use different circuit boards in some different models, for instance, the ST, avaps and AutoSV machines have an alarm button. I remember a comment from someone here that part of the 'system one' idea was to have ONE system inside that did everything... and they were pretty close to that.... compared to some old bilevel machines (not sure who made it) I have a vague memory of seeing pics inside which were crammed with tubes and solenoids and stuff to get the different pressures.

Resmed, at the time of the S9 line however, perfected that 'one design' approach, I admit, I haven't taken apart an escape, but I have taken apart an elite, a vpap auto, an adapt, and a lab system, and they are all *identical* inside, same control board, same blower motor, same configuration, the only difference is the programming.

I'm not trying to upstage the senior users of this forum, but there is a cynical attitude in here about sleep centers and doctors that is also often inaccurate. @brose005 paid for his own study, and will be paying for his own machine; so whatever portion of the cynical attitude comes from experience with doctors and centers trying to run up the bills, and DMEs trying to provide the minimum, just doesn't apply. In fact the reverse is true - what motivation would the sleep center have to not recommend the most expensive equipment?
In my opinion, you can't make an "accurate" recommendation with a one night sleep study. In a strange bed. With wires all over you. Probably nervous. Maybe having to sleep on your back when you usually sleep on your side. A single night's data. Not measuring how your body adjusts to CPAP after a few days and weeks.

I would never recommend a straight CPAP to anyone. All the good auto machines can be set to manual CPAP if that works better for the patient. The APAP's usually don't cost much, if any, more than the manual CPAP's.

I was afraid this forum would fall apart when Pugsy left. Now we have senior members and not-so-senior members recommending straight CPAP to a first-time purchaser. Gezuz Khrist.

+1

I hope you and a couple of others can beat these morons down. I don't have the time, and if I had the time, I wouldn't have the patience.
