Possible to sell (one-time) used masks? How?

Post by silverdrop » Sat Mar 19, 2016 3:29 am

TL;DR - I no longer need my cpap machine and I have many masks, most used only one night, that I would like to sell.

Hello everyone. First, let me say that I really feel everyone's pain in dealing with sleep apnea. I dealt with apnea for over 10 years and had been using a cpap machine for the past 3 years. I had a really invasive surgery in October of last year -- they removed my uvula, my tonsils, and reshaped my soft palet -- and thankfully, I have been diagnosed as apnea-free. I still have minor struggles from time to time but I no longer need to use a cpap machine and it is amazing!

I am an American living in France, and as such I have "free" healthcare. This means that I was able to try many, many masks while trying to get a fit for my machine. Most of the masks were only used one time. They have all been cleaned and some still have the original packaging.

I have finally decided to get rid of the masks and I want to know if anyone knows of a website or something where I could sell them. As I live in France, there would be a shipping cost, but I thought if I sold them for -40% of the price and just eat the shipping charges, it would be good for me and for whoever wanted to buy the mask.

Do you guys have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance!

May I suggest that you keep at least a couple of basic ones, along with a machine, for another 6 months. Not to rain on your parade of apparently being apnea free post surgery, but unfortunately many others who've had that surgery have discovered their apnea returns within a year, and I'd be careful about completely divesting yourself (yet) of all equipment.

Thank you for your concern. As it is, I no longer have the machine. The company took it back. If I did need to use the machine again, it would be easy enough to set up and I know which mask works for me (the mirage fx nasal mask). Really, I just have a drawer FULL of masks that did NOT work for me. I wouldn't use them even if I did need to go back to the machine.

Is there no version of Craig's List there? Some community bulletin board, etc? You're free to post a list of mask names & sizes here, asking for PMs and stating how you'd like to arrange payment, etc... though as a new member. far away, may not get as many 'hits' as you might otherwise, but good luck with them.

There is a type of "Craig's List" here, but there'd be no market for the masks, as anyone who needs one would get one for free.

I will try to post a list on here later. If it's allowed and it might work, I'll go through and catalog the masks. Thanks for the advice.

I'm not "new" but I also was not "active". I first joined when I started with the machine here in France and I was looking to find out how to pick the right mask. I read a lot on this site that helped me come to terms with my apnea.
Hopefully others will see that I didn't just create this account to unload masks!

If you got the masks for free, give them away for free. It's good for your karma.

But if you need the money, don't feel pressured to give them away.

Uhhh ... maybe it wasn't clear if you didn't read the thread so far. There's no one here to give them too, as they would have them free as well from the company. And it costs money to ship things. And, I need some money and I am trying to sell off a lot of stuff I have.

Thank you Julie. I do need money and I am just trying my best here.

This thread could be closed. I have posted a thread on the forum with the masks and a brief explanation of why I am selling them. It may be found here:
