What Does It Mean?

Post by blownaway » Tue Mar 15, 2016 12:46 pm

forgive my typing but i have only one hand available today.

Today I had an AHI of 0.00, a first, but my events chart often shows very few apnea events.

does this mean that CPAP is effective at REDUCING night breathing problems? don't recall what my starting rate was7 months ago but i think it was a lot higher, like in the 3's and 4's.

Frankly, i never heard of CPAP being curative, just responsive to whatever happens.

lastly, i'd like to know what other graphs members find useful other than events, snore, leaks and pressures. Graphs such as tidal vol., resp rate, etc. Anything?

Cpap does not cure apnea; it treats it.
This way, your machine only reports the apneas that slip through the cpap "net".
Your low numbers are astounding. I hope you feel just as great.

Sounds like you are doing really well! Wish CPAP did cure... but it only treats... and as long as you use your machine it's all good. Check out Pugsy's Pointers which is a thread at the top of the first page. You'll learn all about Sleepyhead which is a program that will help answer your questions as to graphs, leaks, etc. If you still have questions, people here will help you figure it all out. Best of luck!

Hi Blownaway,

Sounds like you've hit the perfect storm! Congratulations on a 0.0 AHI! Very few events means you are doing a bunch of things just right. The longer I I try to work my AHI, the more I think it is like a game of JENGA, you know where one block will make the whole thing come tumbling down?

Maybe you should give us all some tips on when and how much you eat, when you exercise, maybe some weight loss tips if you done that to perfect that AHI - I'm sure a lot of us would be interested in hearing about your success!

Again, Good for you!

Kind regards,
GB

However, if you consistently get 0.0 and only 0.0, it may be a problem with the software--it's highly unlikely that your apnea is treated perfectly every night. I'll let more technical people weigh in, but I think you may have to perform a reset if that's the case.

events, flow, pressure (or mask pressure) leaks, snores, flow limitations. the rest aren't of much interest most of the time. the new sleepyhead 1.0 has a chart that I thought up, which shows a graph of how much of the night you spent at each pressure, which might be helpful dialing in auto pressures.
