Ear and jaw pain

Post by Lisa2016 » Mon Mar 14, 2016 4:29 pm

Hi. I've been on bpap w/ humidifier for a year. I have severe apnea. Dr said I paused breathing 89 times/hour. After a year of leaky mask, dry eyes, etc I thought I'd finally found a mask that works. I have to pull the straps tight to make it not leak though but it's more comfortable than others I'd tried. My bpap setting is 12/18 psi. Currently I have jaw swelling, and fluid in my ears. I think I tense my jaw in sleep. My sleep has been overall great. Pause episodes are .03 times a night now. I need my bipap! But how do I stop the jaw/ear pain????

It would help if you mentioned the name of your mask.

If you have to do this, the mask is not the correct size/shape.

It's a comfortgel blue full face. I have tried so many masks it's crazy. This one's been the best of the worst. I do feel a lot of pressure in ears and got my Dr to drop the psi from 20 to 18. Would a lower psi help maybe.?

http://www.doctorsnightguard.com/

I use Doctor's Night Guard every night and it works great for sore jaw relief and to position your jaw in the proper placement. There are some cheaper prices if you look around. You may find that your sore jaw is related to your ear problems... that was my case.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I'm sorry I don't know the names of the different mask but I plan to go by my sleep Dr office tomorrow and show them the mask suggestions to look at. I'm also going to ask about unlocking or whatever it is they do my max setting. I think 18 is still too high, hence all the leaks and ear pressure. I set the ramp speed on longest time to give myself more time on lower pressures to see how that works tonight. Thanks for info!

At those settings I assume you have some sort of Bilevel machine?

If you state the detailed name of your machine people can get you the manual.

There is also software available for quite a few machines that will let you see in detail what is happening during the night

Phillips resperonics bipap auto, biflex, system one with humidifier attachment. I can start at lower psi but it always ramps up to max 18. I need to find out if I can control the max setting. I'd like to play around with settings to see what works best for me.

Sign up and logon. That way people can send you private messages with links to the manuals.

Your machine has a data card that can be read and the Sleepyhead software will show you what is actually happening (see first post "Pugsy's ... tutorials.....". You may need to get a reader if you have an older computer but they are cheap and available everywhere.
