Dry Mouth and Throat, etc...

Post by goldeneyes » Sat Jan 29, 2005 10:26 am

I have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and have been using a Remstar Auto with a humidifier and a full face mask (Resmed Shallow Small)for about 6 weeks now. The first 2 weeks was great! However, I have noticed that I have been waking up with a dry mouth and throat. I also noticed that my headaches are back. My son noticed that I still snore with my mask on (but not as much as my pre-Remstar days). Has anyone have this problem. I have advised my sleep Tech about this and she said that this shouldn't be happening. I am petite (5'1 and 118 lbs). For a person my size, she said that my level goes up to about 19 on my Remstar Auto when reviewed the disc. She will recommend a "titration" test to my doctor. What is this?

I am also looking for a petite small full face mask. The mask I am using now is manageable but still a little big. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

goldeneyes, this is going to sound nutty, but.... see if you can get your DME to let you try on several sizes of the ResMed Activa nasal mask. I know, I know...you need a FULL FACE mask. But this might be worth a try - a standard size Activa, placed over your nose AND your mouth. I'll bet that if you can find an Activa nasal mask that is big enough to cover your nose and mouth together, you'll have found the most comfortable, leakproof thing to wear as a FF mask on your small, petite face.

I'm not a doctor. I'm not a healthcare professional. Nasal masks are not designed to be used as full face masks nor are they approved for such use. Use your own judgement. That's just what I'd try.

But if you want to stick with a FF mask designed to be[/b] a FF mask, the Respironics ComfortFull size "small" is considerably smaller than the ResMed Ultra Mirage FF "small". I've used both "smalls", and while I much prefer the ResMed mask, for you the Respironics FF might fit better - it's definitely smaller.

I haven't tried the F&P FF mask that jean uses, but that would be worth looking at too.
