If it was low normal follow it up. My daughter has all those symptoms at low normal. She manages her meds by how she feels, not by what the numbers say.

Re: Its not a "journey".
Only an endocrinologist can assess what is normal for an individual with existing health problems.
A PCP usually goes by the guidelines established for HEALTHY people.
What is often ignored is the need for different levels in the presence of diabetes, and other conditions.

Did you check the range for the lab work on your Thyroid Testing? For example, when I had my TSH tested last year, it listed the standard range as .450 to 4.500. Mine came out to 2.180. If the result had been closer to the lower or higher range, I would have asked for more followup testing.
Anyway, that is why you were asked where you fall in the range. Even though technically, your results might be normal, you could still have a problem.

FWIW, my wife's thyroid tests all showed her levels to be in the "normal" range, right up until she went to the ER with Afib due to a thyroid imbalance. The standard/cookie cutter test that's normally given isn't particularly exhaustive IMO. If you can find an endocrinologist to evaluate you, you might be surprised at what's revealed.

+1000
The "normal" guidelines are established for "HEALTHY" people, usually young, non-smoking males.
You did not marry one of those, did you?
This definition of normal may not be ideal for everyone.

Wow. That explains a lot.Gasper62 wrote:FWIW, my wife's thyroid tests all showed her levels to be in the "normal" range, right up until she went to the ER with Afib due to a thyroid imbalance. When I started therapy, I never got much relief even with a treated AHI of near zero (ask Morbius, wherever he is these days). I DID get an endocrinologist, however, and she didn't like my "normal" thyroid results, TSH trending upward, so she treated it. That got rid of the intractable daytime sleepiness (for which my sleep doc offered Provigil in despair), AND substantially improved my irregular heartbeat and really slow pulse. That's two less problems, although the potentially devastating but currently undiagnosed neurological issues remain. It's great to at least feel a little better.
Noctuary - PLEASE don't let mental health "professionals" blowing you off stop you from getting help. It's really hard, I know, with no insurance. But the hotline is free, and surely they know of decent local resources that would actually help you! It's one teeny tiny step, but it's at least a step away from where you are now. Please, please take it!
Rooting for you!

Probably the same place a little girl I knew from work (kids' rehab ctre) who was called Harry, because she didn't like her given name and when they asked what she wanted to be called, said "Harry". And they said fine, and it became official! Isn't that great?
