Increasing his pressure could make the central apnea worse.

Experiment with EPR. Some people do better with less EPR, some do better with more.

The ResMed machines feel somehow gentler in terms of pressure changes, if you get him to try APAP.
I've got him on APAP, 10-20 now. I didn't tell him I made the change, and I'm not sure he even noticed. Because I'm evil. On the nights his leaks are controlled, we're seeing AHI's around 15. On high leak nights, we're around 30. 1 week until new titration!
