Hubby uses a PR S1 Series 60 APAP. He's running in straight CPAP mode with a pressure set to 8cm since that works well for him.
I was cleaning our equipment today and once again I found the black foam filter had come out of the machine in the back. I don't know if he somehow "blows" it out or if it just falls out. All I know is that he never bothers to look at his equipment---he's one of those lucky ones who's felt better right from the start. So he's probably been running the machine without the airfilter for most of the last week or so.
This never happens to my PR System One Series 50 Auto BiPAP. So I'm clueless about how to "fix" this problem.
Any ideas on what I can do to make that filter stay in the machine a bit better?
Any ideas on whether it's going to do real harm to the machine if it's run without the air filter for many nights in a row?

I've red of people coughing the filters out, unlike the resmeds which all have a filter cover, the filters in the prs1 (and M) just friction fit.robysue wrote:Hubby uses a PR S1 Series 60 APAP. He's running in straight CPAP mode with a pressure set to 8cm since that works well for him.

I've read of people putting a rubber band around the machine, over the filter, or some tape on the sides, because of the design of the intake, most of the air wants to go through the center anyway.
I wouldn't worry about a few days, what will happen is that the fan blades inside will pick up a few specs of dust on the leading edge... but you probably wouldn't even be able to tell if you took it apart and looked.
now, if you ran it for months without the filter, or lived in an exceptionally dusty area, a couple weeks might be trouble.
I wouldn't worry about a few days at all.

I solved this problem with a rubber band running from front to back.
You don't need much support just what fits.
Edit: BTW it happened frequently on my PR750 Auto BiPap before the rubber band fix. I think that it is a matter of coughing or exhaling strongly during the night. It also happened on my PR960 ASV machine but not since I installed the Oximeter attachment which just slightly overlaps the filter recess.

Re: PR System One Series 60 air filter woes ...
My filters probably were out more than in on the PRS1 60 Series BiPAP. Ridiculous. The filters are not a tight fit, and easily fall out with some back-pressure. The idea of a rubber band worked, but I started using the old M-series filters and a little trimming because they had the tab on them. That created a better compression fit that stayed in place.

Maybe line the recess with a couple strips of the "hook" part of Velcro. (self-stick kind) That might snug things up a little. I used to be able to cough/sneeze my PR1 - 250 filter out occasionally.
