Newly prescribed APAP. DME appointment next week.

Post by sahilyadav » Tue Mar 01, 2016 9:55 pm

Hi guys,

I have been keenly following all of the discussions on this forum for a while now. I was diagnosed with severe OSA last month (AHI 45) and was prescribed the Resmed Airsense 10 Auto with a dreamwear nasal pillow although people have recommended the P10 to me. I have an appointment with SleepQuest in San Carlos next week.

Hope it all works out!

Cheers!

Hi Sahilyadav,

You are way ahead of the game to have your information / profile already before even getting your machine. This is great! You do have a severe problem (ahi 45) but you also have a great attitude and are ready to invest in your therapy. You haven't even started and you are already doing the right things for your success!

Please post on this thread again once you start, upload your info to sleepyhead if you can and let everyone know how you are doing. I hope everything just takes off for you and you are sleeping well soon.

Kind regards
GB

I hope it works out too. Lots of people have loved the Dreamwear mask. I did too, but by day 3, I was having lots of leaks- a problem I could never resolve.

Hopefully with a specific prescription the DME won't give you any guff. But don't be surprised if they do. Read "What you need to know BEFORE you meet your DME" in my blog to understand the games DME plays, so you don't fall for any of them.

I have been using the DreamWear Mask the last two nights. I'm not sure if I like it or not. It's a little bulky on the side of my face, and I sleep mostly on my side. And I'm not thrilled with bare silicone against my nose--I've got to check and see if Padacheek has the equivalent of a "barrel cover" for it. (The first Swift masks had a barrel shaped nasal pillow holder).

Last night was my second night with the DreamWear, and it seemed pretty leaky compared to the first night. I confess I'm not much of a washer--it might need a really clean skin contact to work, in which case it's not going to be an ideal mask for me--I can barely function in the morning

It vents quite a bit out the front as well as up top, so I had a hard time distinguishing between venting and leaking around the nose. I'm not sure how the elastic and neoprene straps at the back are going to hold up over time--they both seem pretty flimsy.

OTOH, the hose attachment on the top is very nice! I feel so free turning from side to side now. I wasn't sure it would work because other masks which "let" you attach the hose to the headgear at the top are a bit front heavy and the hose attachment bumps into the headboard (or what passes for it on my bed). But because there's an L shaped attachment with a swivel, that's not an issue where the DreamWear hose attaches. To sum up, I want to like this mask a little more than I do so far. I'll give it more time, though.
