Break out from mask

Post by NMHAWK » Tue Mar 01, 2016 11:41 am

Hi, I'm having trouble with severe breakouts where my mask sits between my eyes and on the upper bridge of my nose. I have tried multiple masks, but within 2 to 7 days I start breaking out and they are very painful and ugly. I have to stop using the CPAP to clear them up, which is obviously not good. Can anyone give me some ideas/help on what to do? I am a mouth breather, or I would try the nose mask. Of course, that may be better than nothing.
HELP! I'm tired. lol

I'm 52 and I had a tiny, but annoying break out on my nose until I started washing my mask with some Purity gel - just the same cleanser I use on my face. At my age a breakout is mostly going to be bacteria/oils or an allergy. The cleanser doesn't seem to harm or break down the mask. I use a vitamin C serum/daytime moisturizer that keeps my skin fairly supple and wrinkle free, and I stay out of sun so I don't put on moisturizers at night. Painful and ugly breakouts can also be from diet and not drinking enough water, so be sure to take care of that too. I hope this clears up soon for you.

I have the same issue with full face mask but like it, makes me look 14 again, at least on my nose.

Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. I use Padacheek, wash it at least once a week and wash my face nightly before bed and my nose looks worse than when I was a teen. Now I am just using nasal pillows with a chin strap or cervical collar, sometimes both. I will try the nose pads LSAT recommends.

When my mask caused a large sore on my nose, I used a band-aid on the nose at night until it healed. After it healed, I would place a piece of moleskin on my nose at night to prevent the mask making my nose sore. I have since switched to the Amara View mask which eliminated the problem.
