Philips Respironics tubing problem

Post by Corky1121 » Mon Feb 29, 2016 5:43 am

In the last few nights my tubing keeps disconnecting from my ffm. I have a new replacement mask and tried the new tubing on that and the tubing disconnects from that too. How can I get the tubing to stay on. Its never disconnected before.
Diagnosed after home study with 37 obstructive Apneas. Indexed at 22 Per hour. Moderate Apnea. Have suffered migraines and waking up stiff and tired and at times with muscle spasms.

for the time being, put a rubber band around the end of the hose, I used to wrap a string tightly around mine.

over time, the ends of the hoses get softer and won't grip as well, and need a little help.

regular hoses are cheap on amazon/ebay.

I went for a year or so with string tied tightly around the end of my hose, because I couldn't be bothered to order a new one when that was all that was wrong with the old one

If you connect and disconnect several times a night the ends are just getting worn. Suggest you reverse the hose. The end that is permanently attached to the machine should become the end that attaches to the mask. It should be much tighter. If that doesn't work you need a new hose. They are not expensive. My hose is currently 18 months old, but my hose has a connector available that saves the ends.
Fixed pressure at 11

Your profile says you are using a nasal mask, but you are saying that your problem is with a FF mask. There is a swivil connector that can be used with most FF masks that may solve your hose problems.

Tube fittings should not slip. Clean the inside with some Dawn or similar dish detergent to be sure there are no oils, lotions or other contaminates there. If it continues to slip, contact your supplier. You might have gotten an out of spec or generic hose.

Did you move the mask adapter from the old hose to the new one -assuming there was an adapter? All of the full face masks I have seen require an adapter but I have only seen a few brands.

Which particular mask are you having problems with? This is usually a case of you losing a piece of the mask. Many of them have a little piece that the hose attaches and you can misplace that. The hose will often fit without the connector, but won't stay on properly without it.
