Where can I sell a used CPAP

Post by jpek » Wed Feb 24, 2016 5:08 am

Hello, everyone. I inherited a CPAP from a friend. (It' a REMStar Plus with C-Flex). It seems to be in good condition, though definitely not new. I never used it and, since then, I've gotten a CPAP through my provider. So, now I have this very decent machine, with a humidifier and hoses, etc. sitting around. I thought I would try to sell it, it's gotta be worth something. But for some reason Ebay and Amazon both ban CPAP sales. Does anybody know where I can sell it?

Have you considered keeping it as a backup machine in case the newer machine goes out?

+1 for Sheriff B's response. Unless you already have a spare.

The word "plus" in the name indicates this machine gives only usage hours;
hence not an ideal choice for one's first/beginning machine.
Should still be capable of providing therapy, but not worth a lot of money.
Priceless if it gets to someone in need, but established charities may just fling it into a dumpster.
Do not donate it to Goodwill--they SMASH them.

Apparently that's not true of all areas because I have seen older ones on their online auction site. They always went for more than I would pay for them though and of course didn't have the machine hours listed so I wouldn't reccommend it as a source.

It's a relief to know they are not stupid every place.

Another +1 for keeping it as a backup.
You never know when your primary machine may decide to quit working and you would need something while it's being repaired. "Murphy's Laws" also apply to these devices, too. They don't last forever and WILL break/quit at the worst possible time.
These forum pages are filled with many examples.
Besides, your friend would have wanted you to keep it and take care of it.

I would do the craigslist if you just want to get rid of it. Some folks don't have the insurance coverage for it.

Follow the rules for being safe with Craig'slist sales.
Public place, lots of people. Etc.

I need money and decluttering more than I do the machine. (Friend really doesn't care -- she's moved on to a new machine. And my sleep apnea isn't so bad that I can't make do without for a little while if I have to while my primary machine is being repaired. After all, most people don't have a spare.)

Yeah, I've been trying Craigslist. So far no luck. I don't really know how to price it accurately. According to descriptions it is still a popular legacy model with some users.

It's probably worth about $25 (or less, depending how many hours it has on it).
You ain't gonna get enough to make it worthwhile to even box it up to ship it somewhere.

List it for $25-$50. Most people who list cpap stuff never sell it because they are asking ridiculous prices. It's used, it's old technology. However, someone with no insurance or a high deductible will buy it at a bargain and relieve you of the clutter. Someone else might buy it just for parts since they aren't available any longer.
