purse your lips so the tape isn't on the tender bits, makes for a better seal.
This is what I do. I use 2" 3M Durapore tape, available on amazon. I tear off a piece long enough to go a little past the corners of my mouth.

I tried a $12 soft neck brace and it works great for me.

Technically, it's a foam cervical collar. Some brands come in soft and firm. The firm works better for me - 4-inch.
