auto on/off doesn't work properly
auto on/off doesn't work properly
I have a Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her. I have the auto on/off turned on. The machine comes on automatically when I put the mask on, but doesn't turn off automatically. I've let it run for up to 10 minutes after taking the mask off and it still doesn't shut off. The auto off feature did work about 2 times when I first go the machine about 2 weeks ago, but after the first couple of times it stopped working. Any suggestions?
Re: auto on/off doesn't work properly
Turn it off when you're not using it. It should still come on auto. when you want it to.
Re: auto on/off doesn't work properly
I personally don't use the auto on or auto off feature after a few times "back in the day" having them malfunction. I would do what Julie suggests and just not use the feature. However, if you have a warranteed machine and it is indeed malfunctioning, that is a consideration. Maybe some others who use that particular machine can say if theirs works properly or if this machine is prone to this issue.

I love the auto on feature with any CPAP. But I have never used the auto off.

Re: auto on/off doesn't work properly
I use the auto feature to turn my machine on.
I shut it off manually, because of the noise and irritating delay.
I also suspect this feature was designed primarily for cushion-type masks,
and may only work sporadically with nasal cushions or even low pressure.

Re: auto on/off doesn't work properly
What hose and mask are you using? Are you sure you have it detect both on and off, I believe you can set it to auto start without auto stopping, so maybe the auto stopping is turned off.
I have an S9 which should be similar in how it detects usage, and I keep the auto on/off turned on, and it works fine. I like this feature because I'm also using a separate pulse oximeter logger, and I can get it ready to record, slip the nasal pillows on and breath into it while pressing the record button on the oximeter. This allows sleepyhead to align the two separate recordings very closely.
The auto off function works well too - I slip it off, set it aside, and within a second or two it turns on the display and starts the cool down cycle.
Make sure you have the correct mask type selected in the machine (may need the clinical manual to change this).
Also if you have additional hoses, or a non thin hose (it's designed for the slimline or heated climate line hoses) then the algorithm may not detect a mask off event. Try it with the official hose, and only one connected if you have any extensions or unusual setups.
If you're using it with a mask/pillow/etc that isn't a Resmed brand, try each of the mask type settings just in case the outflow rate is different enough that it doesn't detect it.
Lastly, it should definitely detect a mask off event if you disconnect the hose from the mask hose. This probably isn't as convenient as pressing the button on the machine, though.

Yeah, same issue here. Auto on works fine. It doesn't go off, though. I just turn it off. I'm sure it's because of mask I'm using.

Re: auto on/off doesn't work properly
I tried using the auto start option far about a month, but I ended up turning it off. If I put my mask on and wanted to use the mask fit function, the therapy would start before I could start the mask fit function. Some night it takes a couple tries to get my mask to seal properly.

Re: auto on/off doesn't work properly
To answer some questions, I use the climate line resmed hose, and the resmed p10 nasal pillows. I have my machine mask setting on pillows. My machine only has auto on/off, not separate auto on and auto off.
I toyed with the machine quite a bit last night and found that if EPR is turned off, the auto off works great. If EPR is on and set to 3 it doesn't work. 2 and 1 work intermittently, with 1 working better than 2.
So I think to answer my own question, the auto off doesn't work (or works well) based on the EPR setting. I prefer an EPR of 3, so I guess I'll just continue to turn the machine off manually when I take the mask off.
But I do think ResMed should have written in the clinician's manual that auto off only consistently works with EPR turn off.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone else who is stumped because the advertised "auto off" feature doesn't work on their machine.

Re: auto on/off doesn't work properly
You posted before I had time too! YES, EPR affects auto off! I thought it was just because I had changed to a different mask, but then discovered that the auto-off stopped working when I put on the EPR.prodoula wrote:To answer some questions, I use the climate line resmed hose, and the resmed p10 nasal pillows. Re: auto on/off doesn't work properly
EPR lowers your effective pressure.
if the pressure is too low, the machine can have trouble detecting the mask off situation.
raise your min pressure a couple, and even with EPR, it should still detect mask off and shut down.
