Virgin CPAP User - tonight will be my first!
I just got my new CPAP buddy. tonight will be my first night. I am hoping that will help me with my apnea problems. I went for a sleep study about 1.5 months ago and found out that I wake 22 times an hour throughout the night. the doctor told me I have moderate to severe apnea. I have been dealing with these sleep issues probably for the past 5 - 10 years. When I wake in the morning I feel like I haven't slept. Within the past year I have started to experience other symptoms: lack of cencentration, depression, fatigue, lack of energy, and so on. so after all that here I am starting a treatment that I hope will help change / rememdy these problems. I hope this works. I will come back and post my experiences in the next couple days and we'll see how it goes.
BTW, this site proved really helpful to make sure I got the right equipment and had the right questions to ask when I went today. Thanks to all who post!

The first night for a virgin is always a memorable experience.
All the above things will be greatly changed for you with your first experience.
You will wake up refreshed and invigorated and hopefully with a big grin.
You will ask yourself why you put it off for so long.
Your life will never be the same again.

Good luck to you. And please fill in your profile "equipment" section so we all know what machine/mask you are using. That info will help us in case you have further questions.

Pleasant Dreams
How did you handle your sleep study, the mask, hose, noise, etc.?
Sleeping in your enviroment with the paraphenalia can take an adjustment. IT is all about comfort.
As you may have read many of us are still on a quest for the holy grail of sleep. WE become mask-a-holics
Anything new takes some patience and time to adjust. IF you can deal with the mask and other distractions, you will probably have a different sleep experience quickly.
IF you have had a sleep deficit for so long your body will need to "catch-up."
Many of us initially experience a xPAP "high." A terrific feeling of well-being after we adjust and our body starts to relieve its sleep deficit.
Some of us dream profusely since we are finally able to maintain REM sleep.
Good luck. You are now officially a hose-head.
Let us know how it goes.
Best,
Tom

Hi tomjax,
I think you have some explaining to do.
Many of us on the forum have been eagerly following your posts to glean information from your vast knowledge and the complexities of Sleep Apnea. Speculation has been rampant regarding how you acquired this in depth knowledge. Harvard graduate, self taught literary recluse, unearthed ancient secrets, tenth level black balloon of the evil DME Society. No one really knows for sure though some say you tutored under Michael, Darth and even the lonely ranger to gain expertise in masks.
Now, it seems, your so called " in-depth knowledge" has not been based on observation and experiments with patients in all life stages. Fussy little researcher, you appear to zero in on only one segment of society. Sure, some may be in the latter stages of life - 60, 70 even 80 years old, but I sure don't think there would be many. And even so, do you really spend a sufficient amount of time with them?
Another thing. Were you personally involved? I know "hands" on may not be the correct phrase but you do get my drift don't you? I really don't want to hear your knowledge was gained only through reading and picture books!
So lets just get to it and hear your explanation.
Just what did you mean by "the first night for a virgin is always a memorable experience". The way you state this, it sounds like you have done considerable investigation. If this is true, you must tell us what your secret is. Personally, I think it has something to do with the hose.

P.S. - I think the "big grin" part isn't true for everyone. Only mouth breathers.

I still cannot quote, but Bob asked:

Sorry, but I have the same number as everyone who is still uninitiated.
ONCE!!
The original poster wondered if he had the right equipment and I am sure all of us have also had this concern.
All my observations are based on personal experiences and this is quite broad in my case. I have observed lots of things in my life.
I am not saying I am irrelevent and unimportant, but I have spent the past several years on the FBI's least wanted list. Talk about being unimportant!!
I hope the original poster will post back and give his perspective as a non virgin.

Yes, Bob, there is a time-out. The way around the time-out is to preview your posts every so often as you are composing them.unclebob wrote:Why doesn't my post reflect my user name. Is there a time out or something else I am missing. It's happening all the time.
If I step away from the computer for an extended time and come back, before I continue a composition, I first copy it into the clipboard, log back in, go back to the thread, start a new reply, and then paste the partially completed post into the new reply, and then finish it.
Yeah, it's a PITA . . ., but I like it better than posting as guest.
Regards,
Bill
