Yes. If you're very low on oxygen during the night, it can damage your eyesight.

Personally, in the months leading up to my diagnosis and start of therapy, my eyesight was crap, with constant blurred vision. Once I started CPAP, it improved it a lot.

As you may know, the recommendation in the UK is that those between 18 and 60 have their eyes tested every two years, and for those over 60, every year.

The process now routinely includes testing for pressure (ie, for glaucoma), ability to see across the retina (for macular degeneration), and a fundus photograph of each eye - like the ones in the link above - to look for blood vessel changes (for hypertension and various other conditions).

And as I'm sure you also know, sleepyhead6867, depending on your circumstances, the standard optician's test in the UK is free.

Anyone with diabetes or SDB should have an ophthalmologist examine their eyes. Can't be too careful with them.

My eyesight has deteriorated rapidly the last two years, coinciding with the onset of apnea.

You MUST see an ophthalmologist. This is not the time to ask for internet help.

Hi sleepyhead -- wouldn't harbor a guess about the red blood vessel streaks; however, the burning might be a cataract or just allergies. I felt this type of discomfort in one of my eyes, and it turned out to be the beginnings of a cataract. I would suggest seeing your eye doctor; better safe than sorry.

We each have a diagnosis and a therapy prescription from a medical professional to cover our sleep-disordered breathing condition. We came here to get and give help in understanding, implementing and optimizing the prescribed therapy.

You have NO diagnosis for your "red blood vessel streaks" from a medical professional.

Go see an ophthalmologist.

I've made an appointment to see an optician and still awaiting my results from the sleep clinic/lung function apointment kick me if I'm being stupid or ignorant but i didn't know you have to have an official diagnosis to suffer from symptoms or illness you don't quite understand let alone find easy to cope with

You're not being stupid or ignorant and I understand you aren't finding it easy to cope. Glad you are working with your doctors. Why not ask your doctor(s) if seeing an Ophthalmologist is advisable.

That i understand unfortunately my results are not through until the end of the month I'm not here looking for pointless internet fights or arguments with what to me is a phone screen. If you can at least educate me as to whether there's anyway i can get my gp to speed thing's up with regards to the sleep clinic/lung function results i would greatly appreciate it.
