Compatible headboards

Post by doughpat » Mon Feb 01, 2016 5:48 am

Hi all. I'm about 2 years into CPAP and I am fully aware of it's positive influence in my life. On the rare occasion that I am without it, I notice. So, that being said...

I've got the opportunity to have a custom-built headboard and nightstand.

I'd like to come up with a design that will effectively 'hide' my CPAP machine and hose. It's not that I'm ashamed--I am truly not! I just don't really like the looks of the thing. I've always appreciated the minimalist style and CPAP gear is so cluttery and un-Zen-looking.

Wondering if anyone has any pictures/diagrams of examples of headboards that they've rigged up so that their machines/hoses/masks can be easily tucked away. Of course, being able to access daily for water refill is necessary.

I've had my hose dangling about 24" above my face for about a year now--I like that system well enough, though I'd like to incorporate a spring-recoil system to give me a bit more flexibility. Anyway: I'd like to stay with a "held from above" approach (vs. off to the side).

Any ideas?

You don't see "bookcase headboards" much anymore, but that concept would be perfect to hide your machine, just that it would be above your head. Guess that wouldn't be a good idea, but maybe something that has a shelf built on the side of it to hold your machine? Then the bookcase would be there for the rest of your stuff.

Why not disconnect the hose from the machine as soon as you arise and place the hose and mask in a dresser drawer? All that remains sitting on your nightstand is a cool looking device.

KISS.

My setup would be one more thing to fuss with--I just don't want to.
Besides, my awesome machine is the prettiest thing in the bedroom.

When I first bought my house I bought a lot of furniture at a local thrift store, including an interesting cabinet piece that I use as a nightstand. I placed my CPAP in there when I got it. When I got sick of the hose tangling with everything else in the cabinet and getting dusty, I bought a locker hook off Amazon and installed it in the top to hang the hose from. When I got the hose cover, I bought jumbo twist ties to wrap the hose in, and make a hook from to hook onto the locker hook. I have a hole drilled in the back for the power cord. When the door is closed you can't see it at all. I keep my bed pushed up against the wall, and use extension tubing with my Dreamwear mask. The hose with the hose cover gets pushed between my headboard and wall at night, and the extension tubing hangs over my face with the mask and lets me toss and turn.

My headboard has posts at the corner with a notch just before a upward curve to the headboard. I run my tubing behind the post and over the notch. This works well for me.

I use the night stand LSAT showed the link to. I keep my machine, supplies, spare masks, water, etc. inside the night stand where it is out of site. The machine sits lower than my mattress and the hose is routed over the headboard. I have a maroon hose cover that matches the comforter.
