ASV - Time for an update

Post by Uncle Flapp » Wed Jan 27, 2016 12:49 am

I don't drop by this forum much anymore and when I do it is mostly just lurking. That being said, I'll soon be coming up on my two-year anniversary and would like to thank all of you that helped me learn and adjust to therapy. After a tough beginning, things have been going extremely well. To the noobs just getting started, especially those making the transition from xPAP to ASV, hang in there. It does get better.

I’d like to gloat a little and post last night’s SH report. Work kept me up late the night before so I was especially tired and slept a few hours more than usual (I average 6-7 per night). My numbers consistently look good but most importantly, I feel good. To the screenshot:

Edit: and here is one from one year ago:

If y'all see anyting of concern, please let me know. I am due for another sleep study come Feb but since things appear to be working well I am not in any rush.

Again my thanks to this forum, the sponsor that supports it, and especially you all that contribute.

- Flappy

Flappy, thanks for updating. I actually was thinking of you and wondering how your treatment had gone. What a great success story. Anyone who is not familiar with it should look at your early posts when you used to have solid lines of hypopnea. It can be done! Glad that the feeling of good health has gone along with the good numbers.

That's a nice looking sleepyhead report, looks very similar to mine. I've also been on ASV for two years(2.5). I still have unexplainable bad nights where I wake up feeling like i am dying or can't breath, but i'd say 60% of nights are good. Keep up the good work.

It's great you mentioned the noobs and how problems usually crop up. It was also good you mentioned that they can successfully adapt if they stay the course. For the noobs it should be noted that ASV therapy generally uses higher pressures and ventilation to assist the user in their breathing. It is primarily used for treating centrals and periodic breathing, plus a few other things, therefore there's often a few extra wrinkles in the adaptation process.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Thanks for all the kind words. To Sleeprider's point, I thought it would be beneficial to show an older report. I edited my original post so you can see a side by side comparison.

Thanks for the inspiration and reminder that this is not a footrace, it is a hike and we need to find our paths to the summit.

Very happy for your progress.

Kind regards,
GB

I remember the discussion that turned the corner. Simply raising the EPAP a little bit made all the difference.

Finding time to use the RV?

Indeed! And you helped me with that - I am in your debt. We did't have to raise it by much and compared to many, it is still pretty darn low.

Not nearly enough. Still a little too cold even here in the Sonoran Desert although I did get to use that hook and loop tape serveral times on the beaches of Mexico before the weather turned. Worked like a champ!
