Heartburn

I have a very negative view about licensed medical doctors in the USA. You really need to be very careful about believing them. And I also think organizations like Snopes and Quackwatch are not to be trusted. My husband is a retired physician and has a lot of respect for doctors like Steven Park and Johnathan Wright. He thinks they are right and that so many drugs put out by BIG PHARMA are useless and dangerous. This includes Gerd drugs and Osteoporosis drugs, just to name a few. The last 5 blockbuster drugs put on the market by Big Pharma had to be recalled because they were dangerous.

My advice is to have a healthy mistrust for mainstream doctors and Big Pharma.

I know... he's really gonna beat me up... like I'm a traitor! I really though about him when I started this part of the journey. Oh well

Who's changing your pressure? Are you not using Sleepy Head software and managing your own therapy? All of us regulars do. We are in a much better position to manage our CPAP settings as compared to having medical professionals do it.

You are right; we should go back to the days before big pharma and medical schools. At the turn of the century (1900 not 2000) the life span was less than 50 but cancer was much less of a problem and OSA was much less than it is today and very few children who came down with childhood diabetes (type 1) had to spend the next 70 to 80 years on insulin. Damn those doctors and big pharma.

Thank you for saying this. We have so many idiots on here who lack critical thinking skills and have no concept of history and human progress.

I don't know much about cpap causing heartburn, but one of the things I learned from this forum was how it affects cpap therapy. It was explained to me that cpap uses air pressure to hold open the soft tissue in the throat. If you have heartburn, even mild barely noticeable heartburn, that can irritate those soft tissues causing them to become inflamed and stiffen up. That can cause the cpap therapy to be less effective. I don't really have any indication how much less effective it can be, but when I treated mine I felt better so I have been popping the heartburn pills ever since.

I did not say or mean we should go back to the 19th Century. What I meant is that Big Pharma and medicine has developed in such a way that making money is the main goal, not the health of the patient. I know quite a few doctors who sadly will tell you this. I have been damaged by IATROGENIC medicine. This is illness induced by medical or drug intervention.

No, I don't find it unfortunate. I find it disgustingly arrogant on your part.

I have been using omeprozole for years unfortunately. I tried getting off and always had to bounce back. I also think that it depleted me of Magnesium. I found that if I stop eating gluten, sugar, alcohol and caffeine (the fun stuff!) that my reflux went completely away!

Smoking also is a contributing factor. Every time I have quit it has gone away completely.

I had really good resolution of my GERD the first time I went on an LCHF grainfree diet, but I was off it for about 12 years and did some serious damage, I think. Nothing seems to be working to get the GERD under control.

My doctor is willing to work with me on treating a possible H-Pylori infection, but the blood test was inconclusive and since the treatment is antibiotics I'm not sure if I want to wipe out all gut flora I've been trying so hard to support for an infection that may not be there. It's still a work in progress.

I've taken a lot of antibiotics in my life because of a congenital heart condition and now asthma with occasional bouts of pneumonia--so there's been a lot of impact to my gut flora. I wish I could turn back the time knowing what I do now.

Jan, I am so sorry to hear of your problems. I also have had quite a time with silent reflux into my throat during sleep.

I am sort of a poster child for having medical mistakes perpetrated by well meaning doctors. That is why I don't always trust them and I do my own due diligence. One of the reasons for my reflux was a parathyroid adenoma that was missed by countless doctors, including my own husband. I basically diagnosed myself with the help of a doctor in Florida. I went for surgery and proved all the other doctors wrong. The other thing that has helped my reflux is the CPAP.

I don't believe that antibiotics are the best option for treating H-Pylori. I tested positive for it not too long after I came to Panama. I did a lot of research and discovered that certain foods are much more poisonous to it than antibiotics. After I took Moringa and Mastic Gum for about 6 months, I tested negative again. I have not have a positive test since. Broccoli poisons it also.

One of the reasons I need CPAP for my UARS is because doctors gave me that poisonous drug, Fosamax for Osteoporosis. I know now that I should never have taken that. It did not help my bones and damaged my jaw. I had osteoporosis because of the parathyroid problem, which the doctors missed.

Don't get me wrong, there are doctors I loved and helped me. But in general, I am highly suspicious of them. And Big Pharma is a really bad industry.
I also got hooked on antidepressants because of goofy doctors. The list is endless.

Such nonsense. I take it you don't have a clue about what lives have been saved and what health has been restored by the pharmaceutical industry. And the best is still to come.

PEF I am not a fan of Big Pharma and the FDA either for various personal reasons. I spent several years of my life in agony due to a crappy medical device/procedure that should never have been approved.
