Suggestion for bad cold/cough and use a full face mask

Post by zoocrewphoto » Sat Jan 02, 2016 2:06 am

I am doing another round of bad cold with really bad cough, and I thought I would share a problem I had and was able to solve. I normally use a full face mask with pressure range of 11-17. I found that when I would have a coughing fit, I would feel like I couldn't get enough air, and I would ripoff my mask.

I realized during my bad cold last April that it was just like the problem when somebody starts cpap and the pressure is set too low. They feel like they are suffocating and rip off the mask. Since that solution is to raise the starting pressure, I tried that with my own therapy. I raised my minimum to 13. Actually,I tried 12 first, wasn't enough. 13 worked. So, when I got the bad cough again this time,I raised my minimum pressure to 13, and I was back to sleeping well. I still coughed a bit until the humidifier could help. But at least I wasn't ripping off the mask. I was able to cough and continue.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Terrific suggestion!
Do you use the humidifier pre-heat function to give it a head start?
Happy New Year. Glad to hear that you are continuing to do well.

I take some cough meds before I put the mask on. I also put some regular tiger balm on some cotton by the intake. Using a steamer in the room to help with the humidity is useful too.

What I like to do when I'm feel stuffed up, I have a pillow mask and I let the air just free flow threw my nose and out my nose for at least20- 20 seconds or more and do it one more time.(I like it anyways)
If you have a old nasal pillow mask around try it.
It's that time of the yr for colds and flues.

I actually prefer cooler air, so I keep it set for low to mid 60s and never worry about heating it. Unless I am visiting my sister. She keeps her house too cold for me, so then i use the heat.

I discovered a new problem Friday night. Ear ache at 2:30am. Ear medicine out in the car. I should have gotten up, put on the shoes and coat, and gotten the medicine. Instead, I decided it wasn't too bad, and I would wait it out. Wrong decision. Terrible sleep.

I am using a True Blue nasal mask which I really like however I am trying to get over a bout of pnemonia and haven't been able to wear the mask for all my coughing at night. I would like to get a full face mask for use during colds, does anyone have a recommendation for one I might like knowing the True Blue nasal mask is a winner for me?
