cpap headgear for cervical neck issues

Post by qualll60 » Fri Jan 01, 2016 1:12 pm

Hi,
Does anyone know of a mask that would not bother my neck? The strap on the lower part of the headgear
hits me right where I have some bone spurs and severe arthritis and each night after wearing it, I rip it off about 4:00 am
as it hurts and keeps me awake. I have tried to get used to a mask that goes directly into my nose, but just can't hack it.

Also maybe there is a product to cushion the strap itself?? Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

Padacheek.com has various 'fixes' that can help.

What kind of bed pillow do you use?

How about a mask that doesn't go into the nose but just covers the nose like this one?

Or this one that uses a little cradle cushion under the nose.

Now if you need a full face mask that covers both the nose and mouth...things get tough because pretty much all those masks will be using a lower strap that get close to the base of the skull to help secure the lower portion of the mask.
But there are strap pads that might help. You can ask Karen at padacheek which strap pad would cover that part of your lower back strap that is bugging you.

But...I have similar neck issues and similar problems with that lower strap and I elected to use a nasal interface mask because I like them better but saying that...this full face mask I have been able to successfully use without it killing my neck...I can't guarantee it won't hurt you but it might be worth looking at.

The lower strap doesn't go quite so low and doesn't require much tension to keep the seal intact.
It has been the only full face mask that I have been able to tolerate at all due to neck issues except for the Innomed Hybrid but the Hybrid uses nasal pillows and you already said you didn't like stuff in your nose.

I have trouble with the headgear on my mask, it is shaped as to over the night move the mask into the wrong position to set where I start it out.

I cured that by rolling the strap up on itself, effectively making the webbing on the back closer together. I thought it would need sewed, but it stays all night. Jim

Sometimes we need to alter headgear to make it work for us.
This should only be attempted on a spare headgear (in the remote event of failure).

I have cervical issues and the P10 nasal mask / headgear in my signature is very comfortable.

It did take me a solid 2 weeks to get used to the feeling of the pillows in my nose, but after that fairly tough adjustment period they worked great. Your experience may vary, but I'm glad I stuck with it.
