I heard someone else talking at lunch who had a similar incident recently. Obviously, it's an alien/government conspiracy.

Did you ever find the name of the germ that got you? You fully recovered?

I lost two close friends to septic shock this year. Two! Ignoring pain and fever can be deadly. Glad you didn't join them. Good luck in your continued recovery and good health. I'm assuming this hasn't softened you up, and you'll soon be back to protecting us from all the miscreants posting stupid shit.

with similar determination as what I used after watching in mild shock a travel nurse "kayla from new yawk" flush my midline IV without cleaning the port... (before I could say "wait a fucking minute, bitch, I know you're acting like an overworked waitress here, but ..."

when I was relating the story to the nurse manager (person above the charge nurses) her eyes got a bit wide and she says "I don't want to alarm you, but that's how you can get really bad infections!"... to which I replied "well, yes, I know... and if I suddenly get worse and die, I wanted you to know who to blame".

Had the same problem with my husband's nurse when he was treated for a severe infection. He said cleansing the port every time was not that important!! Fortunately, I had read the accompanying booklet a nurse friend had given me, and I insisted. My husband had a pic line. I'm glad you caught that before I was too late! Get well soon!

well, crap nurse hooked the flush syringe to the port and flushed the port before I could stop her.

I'm just figuring I was lucky and any bugs that got flushed into the line were susceptible to the IV antibiotics that were going in the same line...

I had various people tell me various things... I had a midline, which some said was the same as a PICC, but it's not, it's shorter, doesn't go in as far... then, of course, there's the central lines.

I've got my 4th pic line put in since August and they go directly in to the heart, that's why you don't feel the sensation of the flush when she puts the saline in. I'm on my second round of infusion, the first one was 8 weeks and I fired that Doctor cause I still had my bone infection. This new Doctor is really good and I'm starting another 8 weeks. I watch those wipes on the ports like a hawk. Glad to see your up and around palerider, hard to keep a good man down. Hope you have a great 2016.

Good to hear you're progressing too.

I never felt anything with my midline, unlike when they were flushing the regular peripheral iv that I had in the back of my left hand for a few days... I'd be like SLOW DOWN!!!

I'm learning to walk again, I look like a drunk coming down the street. It's a long journey for you and me so you just have to take it one day at a time and hope the good days out number the bad.
