A question on SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizer

Hello,

Please, I have a question on SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizer. Is anyone here on this forum using it? What is the experience? I am really tired of cleaning my cpap mask and humidifier almost weekly. I found out that SoClean 2 CPAP Cleaner and Sanitizer is a solution this issue but the cost of $299.00 does not justify this. May this is because of lack of a competitor manufacturer? Justin wondering. Thank you for reading.

The ozone might kill the germs, but the dead germs, and facial oils, and whatever else dust, hair, etc. is still on the mask. If you read the instructions ( look on Amazon.com) it states you still have to wash it. It might sanitize it, but there is no way it "cleans" and removes the grime.

Thank you for the comment. Please, are you advising me to purchase it? If not, please, what are my other options?

Soap and water. Or a quick wipe down with Baby wipes.

I agree with cardsfan; there is no way the unit cleans, it might kill but the dead germs are still there for you to breath in. I called the company asking this question (only because I know it does not clean) and they were tied in knots trying to come up with an answer all they could say is ozone sanitizes.

You should ask yourself the question of why you want it. What do you think is in your system that is not in your bedroom and than not be cleaned with soap and water.

Your feedback like that from cardsfan, are insightful. That is one of the responses I was looking for. Basically, I needed to be a little 'lazy'. As this i winter time, I did get a severe sore throat, cough and colds. It started on thursday, through sunday, I started getting better. I almost felt as if my body has finally overcome that sore threat during the day with swallowing being no more painful. but then, on sunday night, went to sleep. In mid night, I wake up feeling a pain, that sore throat has recurred. I realized, not the source of infection was traced to that cpap mask tube and possibly humidifier. The mask is changed daily thanks to the insurance that sends me monthly each one and I save all of them. once I cleaned them, the great sleep return'd with no sore throat. this monday and tuesday today.

A good way to kill germs is a solution of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water. Let it soak in that mixture. Vinegar kills germs.
Then wash in soap and water to get rid of the vinegar smell.

Or, https://www.cpap.com sells a solution called Control III that is a disenfectant.

Control III is THE germ killing solution. (pun intended.) Just be aware it's nasty chemical stuff until you dilute it. Fairly benign after that, but still use with care.

I disassemble mask and water tank and wash in the dishwasher on the hottest "sanitize" cycle my dishwasher has and have always been impressed with the results.

There are links to ResMed's "sanitatisation" procedures in the Useful Links in my signature line at the bottom of this post. Within limits, you can use hot water to sanitize many parts.

Let me put it really simply:
DO NOT BUY IT.
--unless you have severe immune deficiency, like from chemotherapy
or anti-rejection drugs after an organ transplant.
If you did not need it before cpap, you will not need it after.

I never knew that a dishwasher can also be used to sanitize a cpap mask and humidifier. My concern is the potential weakening of that plastic parts due to repeated hot water exposure. Please, are you sure this is not the issue with you?

What about Hibiclens? You know, the pink surgical soap that you dilute - is that safe for CPAP cleaning? Because I've always got that around my house.

I've been doing it for over 10 years now, with very good life on my CPAP parts. I don't dishwash anything that's made of foam or cloth. Read the ResMed documents I listed in my profile. They talk about most parts going into 90C water for up to 30 cycles. Dishwasher water is probably no more than 60C. Most mask and water tank parts are made of pretty tough plastic. The clear rubbery stuff is probably silicone, which goes up to 300C, depending on the particular plastic. The hard clear stuff is usually polycarbonate, which is good for 130C or so.

I've washed ComfortGel, ComfortGel Blue, and Swift FX masks for years at a time. Also Respironics Legacy, M series, and PRS1 water tubs, ResMed S9 cleanable and standard tubs. No obvious dishwashing problems with lifetime on any of them. The ComfortGel and CG Blue flaps and cushions get yucky after a year or so, but they do that anyway. Most insurance will replace the cushions and flaps once or twice a month.

A number of people have put their old silicone parts into boiling water with baking soda when they start to get old and get less flexible and it seems to make them work better, but don't try this unless you have a spare. Some of the "short" hoses that are parts of masks, and ResMed non-dishwashable water tanks will melt in hot water. Neither one of those seems to have any problem with dishwashing.

If you're especially scared, order spare parts, including mask cushions and water tanks and experiment on the old parts you have replacements for.

If you do damage a mask or water tank, it's not a disaster. They do cost money, but not THAT much, especially if you order online, or just order parts online. You might wait until you have a spare, but you really want a spare anyway, because masks and water tubs do break even without abuse.

I also like to have two sets of parts, and then I dishwash one set on the weekend, and then set the cleaned set aside for a week to dry and use the other set.

The difference between diligence and fetish is so small; but it is only visible from the outside.

It disturbs me that charlatans take advantage of this weakness, apparently with no feelings of remorse.

Thank you archangle for sharing this lifelong experience of cleaning cpap parts. I am gong to seriously think about dishwashing the cpap parts to sanitize them. I was think that the cpap cushions are way fragile and could easily be weakened and their life shortened as a result of repeated exposure to hot water. Now I know this was a thinking based on no sound experiences. Thank you again.
