Amara View Nose Issues

Post by Sam449 » Fri Dec 18, 2015 7:23 am

I have been using the Amara View for a couple of weeks and really like it. It has, however, made the underside of my nose very sore. I have to use bacitration daily. I'm using a medium, but do have a big schnoz I have ordered a large, hoping it will help. Anyone have/had a similar issue? I would love to hear about anything that would help. I'm a 4 year user of the hybrid with nose pillows, but really like the Amara. Thanks.

Is it "tender like a bruise" sore or "abrasion/broken skin" sore?

You might try what we suggest for nasal pillow users...Lansinoh lanolin ointment/cream. You can use it at night with the mask and it won't hurt you or the mask to be used at night. Just a dab on the area that is sore.

Tender like a bruise is one thing but rubbing the skin raw is another. No mask should be creating a raw spot.

Thanks very much! I just did not want to use anything that would break down the mask materials. It is bruised, sore, unbroken. Heals quickly. I'm hoping large will be better.

If the next size doesn't resolve the issues...consider just a little adjustment in strap tension. Sounds like maybe just a tad bit too tight. Easy to do with this mask. I got a chance to try it out the other night and I had to be real careful to not adjust too snug.

I tend to be a little irritated by mask materials and found no matter what mask I am using I am more comfortable with a liner. Pad-a-cheek makes a liner for the Amara View which I've been able to use successfully (no leaks) - maybe it would help with your issue.

when I first started using the Amara View I was concerned about how it would seal around the bottom of my nose so I tightened the straps to pull the mask upwards. This caused my nose to hurt. Once I figured out how to fit the mask, this all went away.

Me thinks perhaps that you have the mask pulled slightly to tight. Try loosening it a little.
Sleeping MUCH better now

Absolutely great advice all. I'm going to try all as needed. I really like the design, and been sleeping pretty well with it. Just the awake part is the issue

I tried the small. Unfortunately, my little nose drops straight through the "hatch".
I definitely need an extra small, at least in this style.
So much for them! I have had my DME order the Sleepweaver Anew in small.
(I found the Elan small was just about perfect, and interpolating that to the Anew, I am optimistic.)

Thanks again all. Used lanolin and adjusted straps. Had a good nights sleep. Still a bit sore in the AM. Large size being delivered today, so another option. About the lanolin. What's this I hear about overuse and pneumonia? Someone posted that. Since it is going under my nose, might be a concern. Could ask my dermatologist.

What I have heard about in terms of lipid pneumonia was petroleum products like Vasoline.

Nursing mom's use Lansinoh on their nipples and their baby's stick their noses on those breasts/nipples.

Yes, did read that, so have to assume it is very safe. Thanks. Did receive large size today and nostrils are getting full air flow. Will try tonight.

I moved from a Medium to Large and this was a big improvement.

Medium irritated under my nose/septum and slow to heal.

The Large gives me more opening space for nostrils and mouth and I love it BUT the bottom of my nose is moderately sore each morning but disappears in an hour.

No rash or irritation though and my nose has healed nicely.

Thanks for that post, it leads me to my latest adventure with Amara View. Agree, under nose exactly as you described, but now getting blisters on nose where mask hits it. Had one, now joined by another. I love the mask, but have only couple more weeks on my 30 day trial. Is this temporary? Does band-aid help without causing leaks? Always used Quattro Hybrid with nose pillows without much trouble as long as I used thin cut off top of...panty hose, yep, to keep pillows in place. Any recommendations?
