Dumb Question???
I've been reading a bunch of posts and I have to ask.....I can't believe that I didn't ask this before now but ...Is apnea relative to asthma? I also have read a bunch about being overweight with apnea....I know the answer to this one because I am not over weight, never have been. My doc has even commented on the fact that I am not big but I snore and that usually snoring and being over weight are common together?? I don't know but ...I had asthma as a kid. It bothers me sometimes as an adult but nothing regular. i also had a tracheostomy as a kid...why? My airway was closing. For the longest time my mom told me it was croup that caused it but an ENT doc said it was more than likey epiglotitis(have no clue if I spelled that right)...So..you can see why I am wondering if all this goes together? Is this hereditary?Even more amazing....they don't do surgery anymore for epiglotitis...they can give you a pill!! Medicine and technology are truly amazing!! I'm kinda laughing to myself right now....I am usually a pretty high energy person...I wonder what I'll be like with more oxygen That's just to funny! I drive people nuts now!! I'm looking forward to it!

Hi sugarflumpairie,
You're driving me "nuts" just trying to pronounce your user name
My guess is that many physiological abnomalities in ones breathing passages can manifest as OSA. The already restricted passage would have less distance to "relax" and close while sleeping.
Feel free to drive us all "nuts" with your impending renewed energy as a result of your new therapy!

hi sugar,
You mentioned:
Hope it all goes well for you and that you keep that enthusiastic energy!
You mentioned:
I was never "big" either. Was always normal weight - but snored horrendously all my life. I've never had asthma. Anyone can have sleep apnea....anyone. Doctors need to be more aware of that when their patients speak of being tired or sleepy, regardless of the patient's build. Even non-snorers can have it. I think Wader's got it right - there can be many points where the airway doesn't stay open enough during the relaxation of sleep. My doc has even commented on the fact that I am not big but I snore and that usually snoring and being over weight are common together??
Hope it all goes well for you and that you keep that enthusiastic energy!
