Weather change, dried out nose, aggrevating

Post by JasonK94Z » Wed Nov 18, 2015 2:41 pm

As soon as I have my cpap humidifier dialed in perfectly, the weather cools off and the air dries out. Now, I am fighting the bloody nose and stuffy nose ordeal. I bumped my humidity up a point, but no help yet. Having natural gas heat in the house will just dry me out even more as soon as it gets a little cooler to have to turn the heat on

Before going forward, I just want to verify something. Bump up the humidity some more right?

Increasing the humidity shouldn't be a problem since it is offsetting a change in the room air. If it is, you'll find out soon enough. Too much humidity and I get congestion and drainage. Some people get that with too little. I am not familiar with your machine and hose. I've read on here that some have separate settings for temperature and humidity levels. Mine is just a basic up or down, but hopefully someone will weigh in who is familiar with your equipment. Humidity can be a trial and error kind of thing. Good luck with it.

Thanks. My humidity and hide temp are each separately controlled. I like cool air, so no heat. I'll raise my humidity level a little each night until I find relief I guess.

Make sure there is not a supply vent blowing on or near your CPAP machine.

This could be caused by allergies as the seasons change. In which case, turning up the humidity may not be effective.

Of course, make sure you regularly replace dirty filters in your CPAP machine.

Note also, some people report that higher CPAP humidifier settings may cause nasal congestion.

We are all different.
What works for one, may not work for the other.

Being in Canada, I have that same problem at this time of year.
Funnily enough the only way I have found around it is to simply ensure that my bedroom window is open while I sleep.
If I do forget, then I too do not sleep well. At all.
Opening it just seems to cut through all the negative effects of weather change.
