AirFit P10 Short Hose Cozy / Barrel Condensation

Post by nelamvr6 » Wed Nov 11, 2015 8:30 am

I like to keep my bedroom nice and cool. This can create problems with condensation, especially from my exhalation.

I have a heated hose, but I recently switched masks to the AirFit P10.

I have barrel cozies on the way from Pad a Cheek, but I'm a little concerned that because of the mask's design the barrel cozy has to cover a lot less of the barrel than with other masks.

I am also considering a short hose cozy, I had one on my Aloha and it really helped with exhalation condensation.

I'm wondering, are there any AirFit P10 users out there who use a short hose cozy? If you use one, does the cozy have a bad effect on the hose's flexibility?

Sometimes it's only a 1 degree difference in air temp in that nasal pillow barrel that will keep condensation away. The barrel cozy might be enough.
I assume that you can't increase the hose air temp????

A short hose cozy is going to add some weight and some loss of flexibility depending on what it is made of.
I use the P10...and the ClimateLine heated hose and when it's real cold outside my bedroom will drop to mid 50s....I haven't needed the barrel cozy or short hose cozy because cranking up the hose air temp works well for me.
If it didn't...I would try the barrel cozy first because past experience with the Swift FX barrel cozy showed me that it could work well enough to avoid a short hose cozy.
RobySue used to use 2 barrel cozies on her nasal pillow. So that's an option too.

While waiting for the barrel cozy perhaps you could do some sort of homemade short hose cozy...an old sock with the toe cut out works quite well..secure with tape or rubber bands. Then when the barrel cozy comes you can try with and without the short hose cozy and then decide if you need to invest in a store bought short hose cozy.

Thanks Pugsy!

I like to keep my humidifier and heated hose set to auto. I don't have any problem at all with rain out, so this seems to work.
I will try the barrel cozy first. It's not a problem yet, it's still not all that cold here in Connecticut.

I'm mostly concerned because the AirFit P10 can get away with not having a swivel at the barrel mostly (it seems to me) because the short hose is so light and flexible. I'm afraid reducing that flexibility too much might have a bad effect on the way my mask seals as I move my head around.

Another option I might investigate is having a shorter hose cozy and keep it up closer to the end of the short hose, leaving the last few inches of the hose uncovered.

The problem is that cozies add weight. If not a problem for you, then go for it. I made my own cozy out of fleece from Joann's. I used swimsuit elastic on each end and it includes the short hose since I use that on all my masks.

Once again, I had some rainout last night. I have a fleece cover all the way up to the barrel, but nothing over the barrel itself. I am supposed to get my heated hose tomorrow, but now that I slept so little and am missing work, I'm going to see if I can go get it today. I'm very concerned that the heated hose isn't going to be enough for our trip to Yosemite in a few weeks. The tent cabin has a propane heater, but I'm certain the air temp inside will still be cooler than our bedroom is at night (65-67 degrees). I might just have to get a barrel cozy. Any other recommendations on another nasal pillow brand? I can ask to trial one when I go get my heated tubing.

Simply purchase an eight foot cozy unless you disconnect at night between the two hoses. I started with a Wisp and used a rectangle of polar fleece rolled kept in place with three of my granddaughters silicon hair ties(rubber bands). If you know someone who sews it would be easy to create a short cozy. I have a Circadience hose extension which I disconnect at the mask so I use an eight foot cozy. Good luck.

test it out: cut the toe out of a sock and use two rubber bands to see if it works or not
Sleeping MUCH better now

I ordered a 10" short hose cozy. I'm thinking that having the first 10" out of the heated hose insulated, plus a barrel cozy, will probably be more than enough, and it will leave the last 8" of the short hose unencumbered so it can do it's thing without problem.

Now I have to wait for cooler weather to see how well it works out.
