I have kids, so didn't happen until I went on a business trip. I tend to be a very light sleeper after the first 4 hours, and I have an overactive bladder, so I have to get up and use the bathroom at least once during the night.

I've been on the hose for over 2 1/2 years, and I have yet to sleep more than 90 minutes at a time. (Sigh...)

I am a newbie with PAP for about 2 months now and am not sleeping through the night with it yet. I knew in the beginning that it would not be easy, so I have tried to be very patient with the whole process. Still working on my mask issues. Because of having parathyroid problems that were misdiagnosed as allergy and asthma problems for 15 years, I had become a notorious mouth breather. My overbite doesn't help either. I am waiting for my FFM which should be here anytime now.

At first, I thought I could not keep my mouth closed at night. However, I am in the process now of trying to train my brain to do this. I got some detailed info off the internet on how to do this and I am making progress. First, I had to learn how to correctly apply the mouth tape so that it was not too uncomfortable. Then I wore the tape for a few days until my brain would forget it was there. Then I began taping at night without PAP. At first, I would have a lot of trouble getting to sleep and then wake up often. After a few nights of this, I was able to sleep mostly through the night with it. Now I am gradually adding in the APAP with the nasal pillow mask, but still having issues with bubbles of air in my mouth just as I am starting to fall asleep. When my FFm arrives, I am going to try that while still working on keeping my mouth shut. I hope to end up with mostly the nasal pillow mask.It is slow going, but I am making progress and trying to be patient.

I think a lot depends on your particular flavor of apnea.
Mine was far more disruptive than the mask/machine ever was.
I had immediate positive feedback, making my transition easier.
Others may have grown to tolerate their apnea,
making the therapy more unpleasant, by comparison.
I was so unbelievably unrested from my apnea, anything else was a dip in the spa,
Even a mask that hurt my teeth and pressure set 3 cm too high was easy to ignore for a while.
