I wonder what the consensus is when you can't find distilled water? For example, when traveling abroad, it can be notoriously difficult to find distilled water. Is it okay to use water that has been filters, such as through a Brita or Pur filter system?

Yes, it's OK. Unless the tap water actually "smells", it should be usable in the HH reservoir. May require a little extra cleaning of the HH tank, but it's OK to use. Any "pathogens" which may be in the water will not be able to get to the user because the water vapor molecules are too small to carry them out of the tank. And, the heated water may kill them anyway.

My resistance using distilled water is not so much due to the price, although here in Brazil, where I live, it is not so cheap, but mainly due to the difficulty to buy, since the distilled water is not easily found in any store near home, and purchase over the Internet, which would be great, means that it is much more expensive due to the cost of shipping, which can cost up to five times the value of the product.
In any case, I will look for a solution that is viable and instead use distilled water like everyone else.
Thank you all.
Use tap water. Just rinse it everyday and don't let it run dry you'll be ok
