Hey, I'm a 23 year old cpap user. I've had my ResMed machine since I was 18 when I developed sleep apnea due to a muscle wasting disease & a collapsed lung during spinal surgery to correct scoliosis. With that aside, comes my question.
I very rarely drink, but for the past 12 weeks I've been visiting old friends and family, so I've indulged a little, but I always avoid using my cpap when I've had a drink as I worry that it may do me harm or multiply the alcohol in my system.
Tonight I just had a couple of vodkas, and the thought of not using cpap irritates me because I know that I'll end up waking tomorrow with a headache, so it got me wondering, does anyone here know if there's actually any risk whilst using cpcp under the influence of alcohol? I never get drunk, I only ever have a few.. I'm just very paranoid when it comes to my health and tend not to risk making myself worse off.
A speedy reply would be awesome, so I know whether or not I can use it tonight or give it a miss. Thank you!

Your fears are unfounded. If anything, you absolutely need to use it following the consumption of "adult beverages".pixelmafioso wrote:Hey, I'm a 23 year old cpap user. That's great news, I really wasn't looking forward to a night without it, which is strange, because I used to hate the thing, lol
Thanks for the speedy reply!

Thought this might be of interest to those who imbibe on a regular basis (like I used to ):

Do you do everything ☆SS Backwards? You have health problems, so your choice is to drink, and stop using XPAP too. Good life choices, don't forget to drive too, really fast. Jim

Re: Cpap under the influence?
Hopefully, your drinking is only occasional, and not to excess.
You already know why.
Pressure to drink excessively can be strong.
Do NOT be afraid to offend anyone's culture/feelings by refusing alcohol.
It is THEIR problem--NOT YOURS!
Pressuring others into "Social" drinking is often a way people with a problem try to
reinforce the illusion that there is nothing wrong with them.

Hi,
The prevailing wisdom, and common sense, is that If anything, imbibing alcohol would relax your airway tissues and make Apneas more apt to happen! So, you probably need to use your Cpap even more than usual. Please do!
