I want him to get one of these Autocpaps, but he thinks he will need an autobipap, as he remembers not being able to sleep with a cpap (hence why the doctors gave him the Respironics Duet LX System Bipap machine 12 years ago).

I have a sneaking suspicion that an autocpap with epr will be just as good as his old bipap, but I really don't understand the difference.

What is the difference between a modern autocpap with epr and an autobipap???

Please help me - autobipaps are much more expensive than autocpaps.
It depends on his settings, the reasons for him having a Bi-PAP to begin with and his health conditions (goes along with the "reasons" part).

There may be a little difference or a LOT of difference. Bi-Level machines are based on an inhale pressure ( IPAP ) and an exhale pressure ( EPAP ).....hence the name "bi-level"......and are able to be configured for a wider range of pressure variations then CPAPs or APAPs. APAPs are still CPAPs, but operate/adjust BETWEEN two pressures......minimum and maximum or can be configured for straight pressure. If a person has more Central Apneas or a mixture of Centrals and Obstructive, then the bi-levels or specialized ASV machines are warranted. But, it all depends on the therapy needed for the individual.

The sales rep favored the Dreamstation model because if the heating plate for the Air Sense unit fails then you have to replace the entire unit while the with the Dreamstation unit the humidfier is an optional component that can be replaced separately if it fails. Any thoughts on this matter?

It sounds like most of the contributors favor the Air Sense device for many other reasons.

Please advise or offer some insights.
in the last five years or so since the resmed s9 and before that the respironics system one machines came out, I've heard very few reports of "the heating plate" (or indeed anything in the resmed machines) failing, but there are numerous reports of problems with the respironics, including a thread or few here about failures in the wiring of the respironics causing the humidifiers to stop heating because of the inadequacy of the connections in the blower unit.

your vender is probably trying to get you to buy the cheaper model so that they make more money on it, since insurance pays them the same no matter which one they sell.

here's my opinion on the differences: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=99737&p=927976#p927976
