One thing that may not have occurred to you because you haven't used Sleepyhead yet... While an APAP machine can't measure certain things at all, the things that it does measure produce an incredible amount of data. You will see the shape of every breath (cue The Police http://wn.com/every_move_you_make now). Now, we talk about experts, and they are really valuable, but you need to realize that no one is going to look at your data in any great detail -- it would take many hours over many days to look at it. So when something odd or exotic is going on you have to become your own expert and put in your own time poring over the data looking for clues.
You can use this as a sort of screening test for your experts, too. If you spend the hours poring through your data and detect a pattern, and then figure out how to summarize the interesting stuff and give it to your doctor, some doctors will ignore you. They are contemptuous of anyone who isn't a certified expert, and an expert's time is too valuable for doing any intensive legwork, so they will refuse to use their expertise to help you. That's when it's time to fire this doctor and find another one.
can apnea cause NO SLEEP at all (newly diagnosed)??
Re: can apnea cause NO SLEEP at all (newly diagnosed)??
Here are the pictures from my home sleep study in 2015 and my in lab one from 2012: http://imgur.com/a/WKRAP. The first image is the home sleep study 2015. All others are from 2012.
From 2015: 5.1 index. 2 central 27 obstructive, mean time of 24sec, longest being 99sec. Over a period of 6 hours recording time. I'll be honest I felt like I didn't sleep at all the entire time I was having this done, but I guess so because I sure as hell can't purposefully hold my breath for 99 seconds.
From 2012: 209 of 372 minutes asleep. 60 arousals, 22 being respitarory. 5 hyponeas and 18 RERAs.
Another night of what felt like zero sleep. Surely I must be sleeping though some bits right? I figure I would be dead if I literally get zero sleep the past week. But subjectively it feels like that, even when I was sleeping 1hr a night before I would wake up and say oh I was sleeping. Not I don't even have that. Feel like I have sporadic fatal insomnia and will die soon...
Just got my TAP this morning so will try tonight, at least another week until the supplier calls me to come in to pick masks/machine for the auto PAP...i desperately hope one of these things works, I don't know how much longer I can go on like this.

Advice to all newbies: Refuse to take delivery of a machine until you are 100% sure of the exact model and 100% sure it is fully data-capable. Forum members can help.sventory wrote:to pick masks/machine for the auto PAP

I have a ResMed machine and it reports "flow limitations" on a breath-by-breath graph. While normally an APAP can't tell whether or not you are asleep, in my case there is a very clear pattern. If I am awake, the FL graph is totally flat. If I am asleep, even what I would describe as half-asleep-half-awake, then the FL graph jumps up off of zero every couple of breaths. And, because this is how the ResMed algorithm works, as long as I'm having FLs the pressure climbs.
In other words, when your APAP comes, you may be able to use Sleepyhead to figure out how much you are sleeping. The gold standard is EEG leads stuck to your head attached to an EEG machine, and you can't do that at home, but the APAP might tell you what you need to know.

You'd say your machine in your sig is good then? Helped you a lot? How were you before treatment?
