MyAir 100, but still tired
MyAir 100, but still tired
So my data is finally uploaded to the myAir site and last night I got a score of 100 meaning I was asleep over 8 hours, the mask seal was good, I didnt have many "events" and I only took off my mask once.
However, I'm skeptical of these results. I definitely think I took off my mask more than once and I again woke up several times because the mask made me uncomfortable. So I really don't feel any more well rested than I have before CPAP. If this is the best sleep I'm getting with CPAP then I think I'm better off just not using it :/ I've been using it a week and I'm still tired. Does it get better even if my MyAir score is 100?
Thank you.

None of the regulars here consider MyAir to be a good tool for monitoring and managing CPAP therapy.OSAdude76 wrote:Does it get better even if my MyAir score is 100?
Download and use the free Sleepyhead software - https://sleep.tnet.com/equipment
When you start using it, you can ask for help in interpreting your reports and making tweaks to your therapy if necessary.

Use the real software (SleepyHead or ResScan) to get a better idea what is going on.

Good numbers don't guarantee anything anyway.
A week isn't long enough to expect much in results if all conditions were ideal...which yours aren't at this point if you are still having sleep or mask issues.

Fragmented sleep and mask comfort will totally trash any hopes of sleeping decently and feeling decently no matter how "good" the numbers are.OSAdude76 wrote: definitely think I took off my mask more than once and I again woke up several times because the mask made me uncomfortable.

Re: MyAir 100, but still tired
My air can only tell if you took your mask off when the machine actually stops. I find it to be a good encouragement tool. it is helping me to train my body to stay in bed, because I tend to get up to go to the bathroom a lot as habit, and I am motivated to reduce my mask on/off events to try and achieve 100. Also, I am going for the 21 days of 6 hours or more to get my Gold badge. It is all part of the being hyped up about using my CPAP thing until I am used to it.
Are you sleeping without your mask or just taking it off to re-adjust? Sleeping without your mask is a bad idea. It trains your brain that no-mask = sleep.
If you are having trouble with your mask, go back to your DME for help. They can give you tips if it is adjusted incorrectly, or swap for a different mask if this one is right for you. This is something you are going to be doing for life, and the mask must be right for you.
One of the best ways to see when you are sleeping on the SleepyHead software is to use autoramp even if you set the ramp at 0.2 cmH2O below your prescription. For the most part, you will be able to tell when you fell asleep. If you reset the ramp when you awaken (by pushing the top button twice), you can also tell when you wake up. This only works for the first little bit, because as you get used to the CPAP, you will want to keep breathing at prescription pressure, so only your initial falling asleep ramp will show.
I actually deactivate any of the sessions in Sleepy Head where the ramp never got to my prescription or where it only ramped for just a minute or two before I reset it.
If, after analyzing the data, you find that you are averaging less than 5 apneas per hour (especially if they are less than 20s each) during the times when you are actually sleeping, you can pretty much confirm for yourself that your sleep apnea is successfully treated, and focus on what is keeping you from sleeping. It sounds like mask comfort is the issue, so talk to your DME and see if you can get it resolved.

MyAir is good for reporting compliance to your insurance company. The DME can access the information and say you are using the machine. Sleepyhead is much better for showing what is actually going on during the night.

Thank you all so much for the help! I downloaded Sleepyhead and I definitely see why it's way better than MyAir.
Is there a thread/website that explains all the graphs though? I feel a bit overwhelmed and do not know what much of it means

On the home page under Announcements the first one is Pugsy's Sleepyhead Tutorial and hints. You will find a wealth of info in there.OSAdude76 wrote:Thank you all so much for the help! I downloaded Sleepyhead and I definitely see why it's way better than MyAir.
