PR One - Thought it was Bluetooth, seems to be modem?

Post by WearyOne » Fri Oct 23, 2015 10:39 pm

UPDATE: I thought I had a Bluetooth thing attached to the back of my machine, but turns out I think it's a wireless modem. Still not sure, but leaning in that direction!

This was my original post: Okay, I may be totally missing something here, but where is the stupid LED light supposed to be on the PR One Bluetooth thing? According to any instructions I can find, as well as the instructions in the DreamMapper Android app, I'm supposed to press a button, wait for the blue LED light, and then pair that with the DreamMapper app.

The image below shows the side of it where there's a button, but that's it other than a little design thing under the button. Nothing lights up. The only thing that happens is what shows on the PR One machine in the window . . . please see the "First Screen" and "Second Screen" images below. New machine is PR One Auto 60 Series.

If I use the SD card in my computer when there is other thing attached (which I'd much rather do anyway), will the DME provider still be able to get the information on compliance that he needs for the insurance company? He said it's sent to them daily though the connection. He wasn't sure!

I'd love to know what I'm missing or doing wrong! Thank you!

I don't know, but Bluetooth can't call home on it's own, Bluetooth has a range of about 100 ft, jim

Interesting, Goofproof. I know NOTHING about Bluetooth. Just did a bit of further research, and this might be a wireless modem instead, although it doesn't have the "antenna" shown in pictures of it in an online manual I found, which is why I assumed it was Bluetooth. But after what you just mentioned, I do believe that might be it, that it's a wireless modem that just doesn't have an antenna (maybe a newer version that what I'm seeing).

Using the SD card to be able to use the regular software won't affect BlueTooth or any wireless modem feature.
Nothing is changed on the SD card by using it....with or without BlueTooth being used you can use the SD card and not affect anything the DME will be getting.

Now as to why you can't get the BlueTooth to sync...beats me. It was a monumental feat for me to get my iPad and my little Nano music player synced. Dumb luck.
I am zero help with that problem. Sorry.

I don't know diddly squat about it either, but I just did a Google search. Don't know if it'll help, but there's probably enough reading there to put you to sleep.........

I was sure Bluetooth was short range, so I Google it, I guess there are 4 standards, level 1 has a range of 100 foot, your DME would have to be really close. I have Bluetooth on my tablet and truck, but haven't tried to sync them. I guess my stuff is to far down the food chain, I network all my junk. Jim

I just updated my original post, as I now think the attached thingy is a wireless modem instead of Bluetooth! With that, it's supposed up update daily on its own to DreamMapper . . . we'll see! And I think that probably makes more sense with what the DME said about it connecting with them daily. I think he said EncoreAnywhere (or something like what) is what it connects to that they access.

Pugsy, thanks for the info on the SD card. Doing it that way is so much easier, at least for me!!

Den, thanks for the link! Even though I think this is turning out to be a wireless modem instead, I think I need to learn a bit more about Bluetooth.

Still not sure as the thing doesn't have an antenna like all the pictures (and the manual I found online) show, but not having that LED light that the Bluetooth is supposed to have and the DME located so far away, wireless modem I think makes more sense.

It might be easier to tell if you post pictures of all sides of the unit. Bluetooth wouldn't have the range to be useful for your DME but as you say, it doesn't appear to have the antenna a modem would have. (If it were the modem, the "2" in your image means "EncoreAnywhere cannot correlate the device to a user."

How new is the machine? SleepMapper (when I started a couple months ago) kept telling me a device wasn't issued to me. I had asked the DME twice about getting it connected but it took them over a month to actually "assign" it to me (despite the instructions saying I could just enter the serial number, only the DME can do that).

I find the modem to be very inconsistent about "calling in" and I remove the SD card to use SleepyHead anyway so I don't bother with it. I think it's really just for the convenience of reporting compliance to the insurance company rather than having to send in an SD card.

The modem probably has a internal antenna, like a cell phone. Many of my network devices have internal antenna. Jim

Looks like it might be a wired modem from looking at this but I don't know if there are other connections on it.
