[quote="dsm"] The S6 was one great machine - very quiet very robust - should last for many years to come. As a simple straight Cpap machine they rate as tops. Good luck DSM

Resmed S6 is still the best machine and I used it until last December with the Resmed Activa mask which again IMHO is the best mask..

It was when I joined another sleep forum that I realised I had been asleep for four years and that there were so many new types of machines Cpaps, Apaps, Bpaps and even Vpaps and there were masks out there like comfort curve, quattro, hybrid, liberty and what not.. that could treat my sleep apnea better

I got all excited and after trials with the Resmed S8 Autoset and humidifier I took the plunge and just two weeks ago I spent Aud $ 2200 on a brand new machine. My insurance will only give me a refund of $400 once in four years...

Now, I am beginning to regret the purchase as the S8 / Full face Quattro combination is not working for me. I cannot even use the smart start that I fancied any more

The machine is autoset on 8cms to 20cms pressure range and I feel I am gasping for air and wake up all tired and zonked every morning. Yet the read out from machine says hypo apnea index is below 4.6 or what ever and that is acceptable....

Another strange thing is that I am now snoring with the Quattro..How do I know my wife moved to another bed room upstairs

Where do I go from here ?
I am at a total loss.
Wish I could go back to my S6 and Fisher and Paykle humidifier combination but having spent a fortune I feel stupid doing that

THANK YOU RESTED GAL!!!

My RemStar wasn't working correctly and a friend gave me her deceased spouse's S6.

Couldn't find programming info.

I guessed [correctly] it was about 16 and I need 20.

Thanks again.

My ResMed CPAP S6 is a "lightweight". There is no master switch or a display. It is over 8 years old. How do I increase the pressure with this old machine?

Just to add to the already OLD post - I have just managed to get an old S6 out of the NHS in UK as a Spare CPAP and the pressure was up too high - this post WAS useful to me and I can now rest easy knowing that the spare machine is not going to blow my head off

Thanks all, even if it is OLD LOL

So is my old machine. It would nice to know how to change the settings, not that I have any particular need or desire to at the moment.

Sorry for replying to my own post, but with a bit of googling I found a Resmed S6 clinical manual on the web, so I'll summarize what I found in case anyone else stumbles on this old thread (not likely, but I did).

For the lightweight, you use the same procedure (after letting the machine run for 15 minutes first to warm up), but you have to use a reference manometer to know what pressure you're setting.

So not for the casual home user.

But if you do have a manometer you can also set the start pressure. . I find my start pressure is a bit too low, but starting at treatment pressure (11 cm) causes lots of leaks that don't occur if I let the pressure build up gradually, so I use a 5 minute ramp.

What I'm going to paste below doesn't apply to an S6 "Lightweight", but is for an S7 Lightweight, in case someone has one of those and has been looking for settings info:

ResMed S7 Lightweight

1) Turn on your machine and wait for the "Welcome "message to appear.

2) Press the right button (with the red line on it - it will also have the word EXIT above it in the display window)

3) Now the display should show "S7 Lightweight " or "S7 Elite" or "S7 Spirit" and the word MENU should show above the left button.

4) Press both the right button and the down-arrow button at the same time and hold down for at least 3 seconds.

5) "CLINICAL MENU - WELCOME" should show in the display. Continue holding down the two buttons for several more seconds until the words in the display window say....

6) "CLINICAL - MENU exit" (Release the two buttons now.)

7) Press the left button with the word MENU above it

Next you should see "SETTINGS - ENTER exit" (if SETTINGS doesn't show it may be "RESULTS" or "OPTIONS" or "SERVICING" if it is any of these other words then use the middle up/down toggle button to navigate to "SETTINGS"

9) When you see "SETTINGS" in the display, press the left button with the word "ENTER" above it (this now takes you into the SETTINGS menu)

10) Use the up/down toggle button in the middle of the top of machine, to navigate to the settings you want to change - when you have the setting you want to change, press the left button with the word "CHANGE" above it.

11) Use the up/down toggle button to vary the settings.

12) When the setting change you want is showing, press the left button under the word "APPLY."

A change is not saved until you press the "APPLY" button, so it's safe to hit the Change button and look at the various changes that can be made to a setting. No change is actually made unless you hit "APPLY."

To get out of the "Apply" and "Change" areas and go back to simply walking through the menu items, press the righthand button under the word "Exit." Exit acts like the backarrow button of a browser.

To exit completely out of the clinical menu just keep pressing the right button. It will have either "cancel" or "exit" written above it. Press it repeatedly (3 or 4 times) until you're out of the clinical menu.

Hi, was just wondering hwo you were able to do it on yoru S6 Lgithweight, the instructions said to hold the start and 20min buttons then turn on the switch, the lightweight has no switch though to turn on, how did you get it to do that? please let me know asap, need a good night sleep

Giggles549 wrote:I set my machne to 8 and it was fine, I didn't even really notice the increased pressure but I did wake up to my husbands alarm going off at normal time with my mask still on!! I slept all through the night with my mask on!! That NEVER happens, I always wake up in the middle of the night and rip my mask off and turn off my machine. I very happy now. Thanks again!!
