Backup Machine Question

Post by lytepole » Wed Oct 21, 2015 1:11 am

Hello -

Tonight, as I'm going to bed really late, I'm reminded that I really need a backup machine so I can sleep on the couch or the spare bedroom if I want to be nice and not wake up hubby in the middle of the night filling my humidifer, etc

I see several "ResMed S9 Escape CPAP with EPR" on secondwind. I'm currently using an S9 Autoset, but my range is fairly tight - I think 10-12, honestly. Its been working so I haven't checked in my settings lately. I know the Escape not auto like my regular machine, but I'm not very concerned about for a backup that as my range is so tight.

My goals for the backup machine are: something that will work also work with the 12V cord I already own for my S9, and something that will keep me breathing at night when I am either sleeping somewhere other than in my regular bed, or at our camper.

Any concerns with the Escape CPAP as a backup to meet those needs? Or should I just quit trying to be cheap and pay $70 more to get the used S9 Autoset?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I have an Escape as a back up. Reminds me... I haven't run it in a while... I need to. Your insurance should replace yours in four or five years. If it was me and I was used to the autoset mode, I'd spend the extra for the autoset machine. If you can get used to the cpap mode, the escape is ok for naps and such.....

I often see good deals on used machines on my local craigslist. You need to be careful and meet somewhere where you can turn on the machine and try it to be sure it was from a non smoking home. You also need to check the machine hours. I have seen S9 autosets for as little as $200.
Fixed pressure at 11

Another concern is whether or not you want to monitor your data from the backup machine

Thanks for the thoughts! For whatever reason, the cleaning that secondwind does to the machines + the one year warrant makes me feel better than buying from Craigslist, unless that was my only option...

I agree that you would want to try to get a machine that is from a non-smoking home, but other than the odor and possibly discoloring of parts, what might be other signs that the unit came from a smoking environment?

Best place for reliable new (open box) and gently used units: secondwindcpap.com. IMHO

I'm curious why you need to refill your humidifier every night

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
