Dreams since being on CPAP

Post by BlizzardUK » Tue Oct 20, 2015 4:20 pm

Did anyone notice a change in their dreams ? I must have had apnea for a very long time as I can't remember having such long and realistic dreams as I have now. Is that because I now enter REM ? I used to have dreams with apnea but they were different, I knew they were dreams, but now my dreams seem very real and detailed, as though it is a long story.

Did this happen to anyone else ?

Just remember, there's nothing "new" on the forum. Many of the subjects have been discussed countless times over the years. Feel free to use the Search function (above). Many of them have been chronicled and categorized by one of the forum members......"rested gal".......and are listed in her profile. (next link)

Yes you are getting ito REM. However this can be a two edged sword. Check your data. Normally you can not remember your dreams unless you wake up and you should not be waking up from REM dreams, but they can trigger more events for some people.

There are non REM dreams however - those nice delicious "feel good" (nudge nudge) on waking up dreams. Using cpap can really spice those up.....

My dream life was already active, mostly in shorts snippets. After CPAP they took on more of a story line. Guess it was the more consolidated REM. Do you wake up naturally or by an alarm? Just my theory, but seems those who wake up by external stimuli are more likely to have had their REM interrupted and thus be more prone to remember their dreams. At least it sounds logical.

I'm one of those people who wakes up during REM sleep. My sleep apnea seems to exclusively happen during REM. So i wake up during dreams.

Read some of the posts and discussions in the first link I posted above.

You can dream in any sleep stage. If you remember your dreams, it's more likely that you were awakened during a lighter sleep stage. Only during a full-blown, wired-up sleep study would a person know in what stages they were dreaming.

My Sleep Doc told me that good efficient sleep means no dreaming. 99% of my dreams disappeared when starting CPAP therapy. The home study (when no CPAP was used), done only after I was using CPAP for two years, induced nightmares and sweats.

What does your sleep report show?
