Removed Post?

Post by Lucyhere » Tue Oct 20, 2015 11:58 am

I noticed that a post I saw last night is no longer there. How does it disappear? Can you remove your own posts? Are there moderators who remove posts or close certain threads? Also, I see many posts from 2009 or earlier. Why is that? Thanks.

We can remove out own posts if we want to as long as there hasn't been a post made after our own posts.
Once a post has been made after our post there is no "delete" button available but we could still use the spam button on our own post if we wanted to.
Spam buttons are something you will see available after you have been a forum member for 90 days.

You may be seeing some old posts get resurrected....if someone adds a comment to an old thread it will bring the thread back to the main forum page and it will go on top until a new post happens to move it down.
We have been seeing some old threads that are "polls" and even if no one actually posts to the thread but they vote in the poll...the act of voting will bring the old poll back to the top of the main forum page.
As new posts are made they go to the top and the older threads will move down the page unless someone comments again or votes again (which is why old polls sometimes hang around a while).

I don't know what post/thread you saw last night that is totally gone today but there were some real spam last night that got spam removed rather quickly....spam being gibberish or obvious sales threads with links to whatever someone was selling (purses, sports equipment, escort services).

When in doubt when you see a new thread that might be spam...don't comment at all...leave it be and someone with a spam button will come along and remove it.

The recent spam removal of a certain forum members posts...that's a totally different thing going on there and whomever is doing it risks having their spam button removed.

I cleaned out a spam posting two weeks ago and lost my spam button

Normally that shouldn't happen.
If that is all you deleted and you still lost your spam button you might check with Carolyn and see if maybe an error was made.

I usually remove probably at least 5 spam postings a day...sometimes more but they are real spam and not just because I think someone is an idiot. On occasion I have removed really nasty profanity if I get a chance to see it before someone else does but then I usually alert Carolyn as to why I removed it and it takes a lot of nastiness before I will do a profanity removal. Damn, hell or even the F bomb all by itself doesn't usually get the spam button from me.

Normally even if someone is guilty of spam removing someone else's post, just because they don't like what was said, usually a warning slap on the hands "don't do it again" message is sent before actual removal of the spam privilege is done.

Carolyn has a way of seeing who removed what each and every time something gets spam removed.
There's no hiding who did what at all.

There have been other that lost there spam privilege and talked to Carolyn and nothing was done about it ... so I don't think I would do any good to try to talk to her.

I am sure she has much better things to worry about than my spam button

So I will just sit back and let others do the cleaning

It happens, mine was taken and I've never deleted one that wasn't needed. No explaination, kind of made me mad, but I realize things happen, but I think it's still a dirty deal. Starving my dogs, when all that spam is out there..... bad times in my cave.

My button came back in a few months, path unknown. Jim

Maybe the spammer complained.
Some have been registered, apparently to boost their credibility, and to keep their garbage up longer.
Business strategy, not respectable, but business can be like that.
A year or so ago, I was spammed by a "member" with NO POSTS; in a PM!
Instant foe! ---And a note/quote to Carolyn from me!

From what I've heard years ago a lost spam button is recycled to a new time frame... like the time period that a new member gets. I think it's 2-3 months. Of course if it's an egregious removal (deserved or not) I suppose it can be revoked forever.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
