Agreed. Not going to happen.
If you run dry, and there is a smell, it is unpleasant, but harmless.
Just clean your tank, and air out the hose. Done.

That stainless steel is dangerous stuff. Good thing it is only used in every food plant that I have ever visited, every commercial kitchen, and every hospital operating theater. Thank you, CSPI! /sarcasm off

What machine has a stainless steel humidifier--I want one! I'm NOT happy about breathing all the plastic.

I've always wanted an all stainless steel bathroom with a big floor drain and a high pressure hose. I could clean the entire room every day in 30 seconds.

Some people who have RV's and in the tiny house movement have something like that. A drain in the floor, the shower over the toilet, everything sealed and water proofed (not necessarily stainless steel though).

The Airsense 10 Autoset has a metal bottom on the humidifier tank and plastic on the rest of the humidifier tank.

Don't get your hopes up if you've had your heart set on a completely stainless steel HH tank.........
This person is obviously talking about the "base" or "base plate". Virtually every HH tank ever made has a base or base plate made of stainless steel. It would be illogical to make the whole thing out of stainless because you wouldn't be able to see inside it to check the water level or whether or not it as "clean".

I think the bottom heating plate on the PR machines is aluminum.

Oh no! I heard aluminium causes dementia, but I can't remember where.

You think correctly. In hindsight, I should have used a "qualifier" about them......"some", "many", etc.
The bottoms of some of the HH tanks are made from anodized aluminum.
And, after doing a Google search on "differences between anodized aluminum and stainless steel", I'll take the anodized aluminum. I realize we aren't specifically talking about "cookware" in this situation, but there could be a comparison (regarding heat).......as one of these links refers to cookware.

The S9 cleanable tanks are very slightly magnetic, so I presume stainless. It's really hard to detect because the stainless they use is only slightly magnetic. I'm only able to detect it with super strong magnets in the corner of the tank. I think the standard tanks are aluminum.

Found the links. S9 cleanable is stainless, standard is aluminum. http://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents/ ... er_eng.pdf

A10 tanks are stainless. http://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents/ ... er_eng.pdf

That's just the metal part, obviously. On S9 machines, the water only touches metal, so contamination from the plastic is not much of a concern. Water touches plastic on A10 and PRS1 machines.

As for BPA, it has a very low vapor point. That means it doesn't evaporate easily, so even if it did leach into the water, it's not likely to evaporate and get into the air. Don't drink your humidifier water.

Steel and aluminum don't outgas much. You might get a little stronger whiff of whatever chemicals are in the water as it cooks in a dry tank, but it really shouldn't get that hot even on an empty tank. There are temperature sensors in there.
