Ow, my face!

Post by Janknitz » Mon Sep 28, 2015 10:39 am

I had a mild cold which has turned into an asthmatic lollapalooza. Inflamed lungs and sinuses. Blech!

This is the first time in about two years I've had the full blown auto-immune response, and on a scale of 1-10 (so far!) it's about a 3. It could be worse! I'm a big baby!

So I'm back to the Quattro because I'm too congested to breathe through my nose. I have a brand new cushion, but it's so leaky! And my face is swollen from sinus congestion so it hurts!!! I spent all night tossing and turning trying to relieve my face pain. Even light pressure hurt. The moist CPAP air feels so good and keeps my coughing under control, but I was so uncomfortable last night. WHINE!

Any suggestions??? I use a padacheek liner and used every fitting trick I could think of.

I still use my P10 when I have a cold or asthma/allergies problems. I may not be able to breathe as well but at least its a lot better than using my Quattro or F10 with added face pain. I just put a dab of pursleep "clear" behind my air intake, put on my P10 and try to settle in.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I have always found that new cushions are stiff and cause me leaks. I use cushions as long as possible because...for me...the softer cushions, when inflated, form to my face better and I rarely have any leaks. My current cushions are over a year old. As they say...YMMV.

You are too funny!

I think the problem is my face is puffy and hurts. I can barely press gently with my hand, and that air filled cushion against my face was just torture last night.

I considered sleeping without, but the CPAP really does soothe my lungs--otherwise I'd be coughing all night. Heck, if I could figure out a way to use CPAP all day I would--I feel so much better lung--wise. But it would be very awkward in the office

I have never understood the have a full face mask to use
if you have a cold... so....do you flip the switch in your brain
for the full face mask program. ....say what?

I use a full face mask all the time. I have trained myself to
sleep w/my tongue planted firmly on the roof of my mouth.
When I have a cold, I don't just load the "sleep w/your mouth open"
program and life is good. When it's bad enough, I "sleep" without my cpap
in the recliner....and suffer til I can breathe through my nose again.
"If your therapy is improving your health but you're not doing anything
to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

I've been having some allergies here and there too. So several nights in the past month I awoke congested with my nasal mask feeling like I was suffocating because I could not get enough air through my nose. When I'm congested and I use the FF mask, I breathe through my mouth. It's MISERABLE because it dries out the mouth something terrible, but I'm kind of addicted to breathing, so I put up with it.

Well, I'm happy to report I had a MUCH better night last night. Went to sleep with the mask adjusted just as it had been the night before--somewhat leaky, but no pain and I slept all night, waking in the same position and in that calm, comfortable feeling that CPAP delivers. It was SO hard to obey my 5:45 a.m. alarm clock!!!

YAY! I think the night before was just bad because of the bronchitis and inflammation, not the mask. Thanks for listening to me whine.
