Water inside main unit

Post by cpapito2 » Tue Sep 22, 2015 11:44 am

my Resmed S9 was moved (not by me) with water in the humidifier. as a result it now had water inside the main control unit blower. most of it blew out when I turned the unit on, but has a foul smell.

Is there a way to service this, and if not, a repair center I can send it to?

I would try to take the case apart and give it a good wipe down with some paper towels and maybe even put it in front of a fan for a few hours.

Somebody a few years ago explained how to take the machine case apart and remove the circuit board which exposes the air impeller assembly. It seems the steel bearings were the main thing to corrode and thereby seize up the unit. That said, if I were you, I'd send it to Accurate BioMed, CPAPtalk member Accurate. Somebody else posted a link for them. I've used Accurate and they are honest and efficient, HOWEVER your machine may be gone for a week or two (that's why most of us have cheap backups). Accurate is now centered in Florida BTW.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I would definitely open it up and dry it out completely inside. Leave it open for a couple of days after wiping it out to facilitate evaporation. As long as it continues to work, I don't think that there is any need to have it serviced. If it starts not working properly, then you could consider sending it in for repair. I have never opened that particular machine, but the circuit board is probably right behind the display and the water may not have even contacted any of the electronics at all. You'll know more once you open it and look.

Here's the teardown for the Resmed S9 with pictures. Worth a shot IMO:

From what I understand the hardest part is getting the the unit back together. You have to somehow tweak the plastic aligning tabs into the right position and maybe even shim them... that's all I remember.

Of course you'll be voiding the warranty, which I believe is two years from purchase.

Do you have the head of whoever got the water in your machine on your dresser? Jim
