Hello,
I'm very new to this. Less than a week so far and have questions. I wake up sometimes because the pressure raises itself to the point where it wakes me up.
I haven't gotten the sleepyhead software yet, so I'm assuming that I obstructed and needed clearing. My question is this; if the building of pressure is going to wake me up, is there a benefit that I'm not receiving? I kinda thought that the cpap therapy would help me stay in a deep sleep and not wake me up. Perhaps this is just a matter of not being use to it yet.
Side comment; as a test, i held my breath to see if the pressure would build. 15-20 seconds later, it didn't. But the moment i took a breath, the pressure shot up. Weird?
Then I get to wondering; when does the pressure drop back down because it doesn't seem like it ever will. So I hit the reset button. Doesn't prolonged, high pressure that is no longer needed increase the likelihood that I will be woken up? Things aren't adding up
Thank you in advance. I really appreciate any feedback.
Steve

What are your pressure settings? Without Sleepyhead, how do you know what the pressure builds to when you are asleep? Playing with breathing while you are awake means nothing.honeybadger wrote:Hello,

Re: Increasing pressure wakes me up
Hi,
I believe my range is 4-14. When i look at the display it shows the pressure and clearly is more forceful than when I fell asleep. I even turned the ramp off last night so that I'd know what the typical pressure would feel like.
Thanks,
Steve

With the ramp off and the machine set 14 cm, the pressure will stay at 14 cm. Get the software so you can find the pressure you need, I'd start with a pressure of 8cm to 12cm on apap, and use the software to find the best pressure. Jim

Re: Increasing pressure wakes me up
I will download the software and report back.
I feel as though 14 is not my base setting though because i have woken up naturally (or from my alarm) with it lower (and not so high that it wakes me up).
Anywho, I'll get the software and see whats what.
Thanks,
Steve

That's the idea of the software, if keeps you from guessing. You will be able to see what pressure works best and how long you were at the higher pressure. Jim

Re: Increasing pressure wakes me up
Pressure changes in APAP mode with a range of pressures can be sleep disturbing.
My suggestion would be to try a straight single pressure and see how that goes.
Once you get some data from your software, it should give you some clues as to what that setting could be.
