Getting used to the face mask. Problems with facial irritati

Post by tiredandscared » Mon Sep 21, 2015 12:06 pm

Hi, I have question to the old timers. I've got a gel full face mask for my cpap machine. But I'm having trouble wearing it at night. As it causes facial irritation. Any useful tips and tricks on how to solve this issue? I'd really appreciate any helpful ideas. As I'm having a greater difficulty wearing this thing than I initially expected. I usually have to take it off because the skin around the areas where the gel parts seal feels itchy and irritated after 15 minutes. I tried the gecko gel attachment. But it smelled sickeningly sweet and synthetic that I couldn't tolerate it.

Which one? The one in your profile or a different one?
But.......did you thoroughly clean/wash the mask before you started using it?

I made that mistake the very first night when I started therapy........I assumed it would be clean in a sealed package, but didn't know about "whatever" they put on them. Consequently, I had a slight reddish area around where the seal sat on my face.

Otherwise, if you like the mask, you might try making some "liners" for it. They're discussed here at great length and can be made out of old T-shirts and other materials.

yes, mask liners, mask liners, mask liners.
There's another liner that some people use, called RemZzzs. These are available from many DMEs, also from the sponsors of our forum, https://www.cpap.com. Said to be one time use, but I've used them over and over. I also found a pattern online that is based on the RemZzz pattern. I've forgotten the address, but if you google "cpap mask liner pattern" you can pull one up and print it. I've a XXL t-shirt that I found at Goodwill to make them from... all you need is scissors, no sewing involved. I wash them, lay them flat to dry and iron them so they retain their shape and can be used longer.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
