So is the ResMed "For Her" different on the inside?
So is the ResMed "For Her" different on the inside?
So it looks like my ResMed is the the regular old Autoset. I called ResMed and asked if the "For Her" is made for the female anatomy or if it is just differently colored.
He said that the For Her is made for the female anatomy, and also that females are more prone to R.E.R.A. (Respiratory Effort Related Arousal).
So I contacted the doc's office and the Dr. asked the dealer to order the For Her for me.
Today I got a call from the doc's office and the receptionist told me that the dealer told the doctor's office that, while he went on ahead and ordered one for me, the only difference between the Autoset and the For Her is the color. So which is it?

The difference is in the programming. Your DME is clueless.SofaBear wrote:So it looks like my ResMed is the the regular old Autoset. I called ResMed and asked if the "For Her" is made for the female anatomy or if it is just differently colored.

There are also quite a few men who are getting the "for her" model because it has more programming options or sensing capabilities.

Re: So is the ResMed "For Her" different on the inside?
When talking about the new AirSense 10 AutoSet the "for Her" model has 2 different apap modes (in addition to cpap mode) while the regular AirSense 10 AutoSet has only 1 apap mode.
The second apap mode in the for Her model is what is supposedly designed especially for women but I can see how it might also be of benefit for some men.
Here's the manual..now it's a combo manual but it explains that second auto adjusting pressure mode.
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf
and ResMed's promo page
http://www.resmed.com/us/en/consumer/pr ... vices.html
So definitely more than just color.
Now with the previous model series the S9...it was just color but not with the new AirSense 10 model series.

Basically, 4her has an optional "gentle" auto CPAP mode that works better for women.
That's probably a lot more math, science, and programming behind that, but that's the idea. I believe the guts are the same, except for the computer code.
I think the Elite, AutoSet(s), VPAPs, AVAPS, and ASV machines are also the same guts as well.

Re: So is the ResMed "For Her" different on the inside?
depends. with the s9 autoset and autoset for her, the only difference *IS* the color.SofaBear wrote: the only difference between the Autoset and the For Her is the color. So which is it?
for the as10 autoset and autoset for her, there are mode and operation differences available, as well as the color.
almost any idiot (apart from the ones at your DME) can tell that by simply glancing at the manual.
AutoSet for Her mode
AutoSet for Her mode is based on key aspects of ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm and delivers
therapeutic responses tailored to the characteristics of female OSA patients.
The AutoSet for Her is similar to ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm with the following modifications:
- Reduced rate of pressure increments designed to help prevent arousals.
- Slower pressure decays.
- Treats apneas up to 12 cm H 2 O and continues to respond to flow limitation and snore up to 20 cm H 2 O.
- Minimum pressure (Min. Pressure) that adjusts according to the frequency of apneas: If two apneas occur within a minute, the pressure reached in response to the second apnea will become the new minimum treatment pressure until the next treatment session. Patients who use AutoSet for Her will still get the benefits of ResMed's AutoSet technology including improved sensitivity

Be sure they're not planning on sticking you with an S9 machine where the only difference IS color.
Make sure you get the "A10 - For Her" model.

Are there different levels of ResMed "For Her"?
It seems like my current AirSense has limited options. Bummer.
So the dealer did order the For Her for me. Should I be careful to avoid the plain jane model? Or does it come in just one model?

Re: Are there different levels of ResMed "For Her"?
There is only one"For Her" model of the Airsense 10 Autoset and it has the additional operational features listed above. It is white and has silver flowers on it, so you can tell from the appearance and the name printed on the front that it is the "For Her" model. Since it has the most options of all the new Resmed A10 Autoset models, men have been asking for it too.SofaBear wrote:It seems like my current AirSense has limited options. Bummer.

The AirSense 10 CPAP that you have now as the loaner is the plain jane model.
The AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her that has been ordered for you ....there is only the one model and like MarylandCPAPer says...they can't pull a sneaky switch on you. Resmed model names are easy to see on the blower unit.

Keep an eye on them. And, don't let them try to "upcharge" you for a more expensive model.
ALL CPAPs have the same insurance code......E0601.

make sure, then, that you don't pay more than you would at cpap.com.SofaBear wrote:Spank you, Den.Wulfman... wrote:Keep an eye on them. And, don't let them try to "upcharge" you for a more expensive model.

OK, then, along the lines of what palerider said, you may want to investigate other options besides that DME.
https://www.cpap.com or http://www.secondwindcpap.com or even some others.
Do the math and your homework. In reality, lots of times, what is paid even with insurance (deductibles and co-pays) may be about comparable with going out-of-pocket.

Re: So is the ResMed "For Her" different on the inside?
Yes - please be VERY careful! DMEs sell machines at the inflated list price. Find out, in advance, exactly how much money you will have to pay for the machine. cpap.com's current price for that machine is $883.00 with free next-day shipping for a brand new machine. That should be your benchmark - don't pay more than that. We recommend them not only because they provide this forum for us, but their prices really are very good as is the service.
Secondwindcpap.com is one of the few places that sells gently used machines with a warranty.
Trusted forum members also sometime sell extra machines they have.
Finally, machines can be purchased on craigslist, but this requires a lot of diligence to get a good machine that hasn't been used by a smoker. Most listings are way overpriced because people don't realize how inflated the "list" price is.

Basically, you can walk away empty-handed if the DME insists on ROBBING you,
---And get the "For Her" overnight (from cpap.com) if you don't mind the nominal charge.
Since you are paying OOP, no reason to pay too freakin' much.
