Hello all,
This is my first post. I have recently been diagnosed with severe OSA. AHI about 35. I was fitted with an apap. I believe my pressure is set at 5-20. I have noticed for about a week that I have been waking in the morning with soreness in my right rib cage and lower left back. I have been taking an NSAID over the counter medication the last 2 days which has helped a bit. I am a right side sleeper mostly.
My sleep with this new machine is remarkable. Before this I don't think I have had a good night sleep in about 3 years. I am sleeping very well but am concerned about the discomfort.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you

The soreness could be muscle soreness from the extra effort it now takes to exhale against the cpap pressure. You are using muscles in the chest wall that haven't been worked this way before or as much.
Usually this fades with time as the muscles become adjusted to the additional work load. Sort of like when we go to the gym and do a work out and work new muscles in a different way. Eventually the soreness dissipates. From what I have read...anywhere from 4 to 5 days to maybe 3 or 4 weeks. I think a lot depends on general physical shape to start with and the pressure that a person is exhaling against.
It feels very similar to costochronditis if you know what that is...sometimes just very minor discomfort felt mainly on inhale and sometimes hurts pretty bad.
Also if you are perhaps sleeping in one position longer...sometimes that causes additional stiffness and discomfort. Often people say that they aren't nearly as restless and seem to stay in one position longer. I know that if I don't move around my old age stiffness and soreness is much greater.

I had a similar issue. Went away after about 5 or 6 days.

The lower pressure of may also be too low. Your lungs may be working too hard to get adequate air. You may need to bump it up. What is the pressure the machine hovers most of the night?
