I have an ongoing breathing issue, both in the day and night, which has recently endangered my life. According to a doctor I saw in Surrey, I need to have a study for apnea before he can pull out my receeding jaw, and open my narrow airways. In turn, this will help my mental state (anxiety), my poor circulation and my poor, forward head/back posture. I need to find a place that checks for Respiratory Disturbances, also known as RERAS. This will ensure I check for Upper Airway Resistance - I do not snore, I am a skinny male and only age 24, but I match all the symptoms of UAR.
The NHS place I was referred to does not test for UAR, and if I get the wrong test, it'll come back false-negative, and I'll be dismissed with anxiety. I can promise you we have already disproven anxiety in previous tests and medicine trials, but as I have a history of it (caused by my breathing issues of course, I have no stress otherwise) I know that's what'll happen. I don't mind where in the United Kingdom I go, or how much it costs, but please hurry! Unless I get this tested for this month, I lose out on a dream job I've been offered and must hand in my drivers license - I also risk being stuck with narrow airways for life!
Please please please help!!!
URGENT: Need to find a UK sleep study for RERAS/Upper AirRes

Can your doctor make some suggestions for a lab that would test for this?DaxterSA wrote:I have an ongoing breathing issue, both in the day and night, which has recently endangered my life. Also, what about a home study like this one as if I remember correctly, they do test for RERAs

PM - Do a search for sleepstar, a sleep tech who works in the UK and PM her. She might have some suggestions. I don't know when the last time she visited this forum so she might not see your message but it is worth a shot.

1) forget the dream job, for now.
2) If you have not had a sleep study for sleep apnea you need to try and get one before you let anyone saw off your jaw. And also get a new GP.
3) If you want to do something to prove to an NHS doctor that you have issues then buy your own pulse oximeter from ebay, one that records overnight and that you can upload data to a computer and show a doctor if your oxygen levels fall below 90% overnight. Normally a printed out graph. Should cost you less than 80 quid.
4) All NHS trust areas in the UK have different budgets and attitudes towards sleep apnea, you may do well to find a sleep apnea forum in the UK, this one is mainly USA based.
