Leave machine on after you get up??

Post by SofaBear » Mon Sep 07, 2015 6:42 pm

I just got my machine registered and look forward to seeing my data. Here is what the dashboard page says:

"Welcome to your myAir dashboard
Your first night's data isn't available yet.
Normally, you'll see your data about an hour after you finish using your machine. Make sure you leave your machine on to allow it to send your data. "

Surely this can't mean that I just leave my machine running for a while after I get up??

For the cpap machines that I'm familiar with, they're "on" if they're plugged in, even when not doing their continuous pressure thing. They don't mean to leave it in cpap mode with the air running, just leave it plugged in.

I would think they mean just being plugged in and not "running".

Am truly sorry for such a lame question. And yes, I sort of thought that's what they meant. Why the heck don't they just say, 'Keep unit plugged in.' for Pete's sake.
Thank you.

It simply means to leave your machine plugged in, not with the air blowing. I have the same generation of Resmed machines (the A10). The A10 has a built in capacity to send data to Resmed. The data then shows up in "My Air" and is viewable by your DME. Prior models did not have this capability. The DME and Resmed use the data to detect whether they think changes need to be made to settings on the machine, which they can then do remotely. Also, this enables the DME to collect data on how many hours a day you use the machine and over what period of time, so they can get paid for the machine under your insurance, Medicare, etc.

"MYAIR" will give you limited information on how well your treatment is doing. If you want to see greater detail, download Sleepyhead software. I use MYAIR for a quick check, but use Sleepyhead to get detailed information on how my treatment is going.

There are two free software programs you can use to see more detailed data on your therapy, other than the minimal results showb in "My Air." Both are free and you can get the links to download the software here. One is Sleepyhead, which can be used for many types of CPAP machines. The other is Resmed software, which is specific to the Resmed types of machines, including yours, the A10. For those, after you have the software set up on your computer, you put your SD card in a slot on the computer or in an SD card reader attached to your computer. The Sleepyhead software allows you a lot of flexibility in arranging the data graphs and they can be posted here if you are having a question about your treatment. More information and links are available at:

Which download should I install? Or do need to know a bunch of technical stuff to choose?
Thank you everybody for your patience.

I have noticed that the power button on my Airsense 10 is lighted when on standby,
but the light goes dark at night, when the blower is running.
I would make sure that little green light is on, showing standby mode.
That is when it phones home.

Don't worry, the lamest question is the one that you don't ask *smile*. Doesn't pay to make assumptions in a lot of cases. Sometimes you have to, though *smile*.

You don't need technical knowledge to use the software, and it is easy to download both. I have them both on my computer and download my data to both. The graphs show up differently in the two programs. You can easily move graphs around in Sleepyhead and post them online here.

I've taken summary data to my primary care doctor's office from Rescan, because she may be asked for data on my compliance with using the machine and Rescan is the official software from Resmed.

The software is really helpful when you have a question or problem with your treatment. It's helpful to be able to check the data to see what may have been happening at a particular time when you were feeling a certain way or when you feel there is a need for a change / adjustment to your therapy.

If you have problems installing the software, people here can help. No question is too stupid.

S.B., your question is not "lame" at all; in fact, it is quite reasonable given the (lame, actually) "dashboard" wording.

One or more folks, with the very same question can now read yours and get the straight info from the responses.

Good luck w your xpappian therapy.

I haven't seen your machine, but the S9 looks off when you stop using it, but you have to hold the button down for a few seconds to officially turn it off. So, there might be a way to turn it off for real, even while plugged in.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
